In the midst of all the fun that Easter brings, take a moment with your child to get quiet and thank Jesus for dying on the cross, defeating sin and death, and coming back to life so that we can live forever!
It may seem strange, especially to kids, to call Good Friday "good" since it was the day that Jesus died a very painful death. But Jesus was willing to do that for us, even though we don't deserve it, so that we could live with Him forever in Heaven. And that's good news!
For more, check out Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 3:18, and John 3:16
The word "Maundy" comes from the Latin word for mandatum which means commandment. Jesus' wants all of His followers to love and serve others as He did. How can you encourage your child to love and serve others this weekend?

Try something new this Easter!
Here's one of our favorite ideas adapted from .white:
BEFORE EASTER:
🪨 Collect or buy rocks. Talk about what sin is--the wrong things we do that hurt our friendship with God. We are all sinners who need a Savior.
✏️ Talk about examples of sin and write them down on the rocks with a sharpie. Explain that when we sin it’s like our heart is filled with big, heavy rocks.
📖 Read the prophecy in Ezekiel 36:26: “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.”
✝️ Explain the good news that Jesus took the punishment we deserved for our sins by dying on the cross. He came to forgive and take away our sin so that we can be friends with God forever.
🔴 Cover the basket with a red cloth/napkin/paper (whatever you have). Explain that this symbolizes how Jesus’ blood shed on the cross covers all of our sins. Then read 1 Peter 2:24: “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right.By his wounds you are healed.”
EASTER MORNING:
🤍 Replace the red covering with a white covering! Leave a note or talk about:
📖 Read Isaiah 1:18 or leave it on a note for your kids to find: "Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.”
🎉 Celebrate that JESUS IS ALIVE! Uncover the basket with Easter surprises!

Did you pick up one of these today? Let your child color it and get in on the joy of inviting others to church this Easter!
Although the people were celebrating Jesus, they didn't understand that His Kingdom was in Heaven and that He was coming to save them from their sins. We can celebrate Jesus just like the people in Jerusalem did by thanking Him for loving us and coming to take the punishment for our sin. Want to know more about why Jesus rode in on a donkey?
