The marathon is sponsored by Humpy’s Ale House. A “humpy” is a type of salmon, and years ago our sponsor asked that medals for events featuring the Humpy’s name say “Fishiner” instead of Finisher. It can be a little confusing for non-Alaskans—but it makes for a great story and a uniquely Alaskan touch.
