Everyone in business gets the same advice eventually:

"Get your ducks in a row."

Clean books. Organized records. Reports you trust. Taxes filed on time. Cash flow tracked. Everything lined up perfectly.

Good advice. We believe in it. We help build it every day.

But here's what we've actually learned walking into businesses over the years:

Sometimes there's a pigeon in there. 🐦

A transaction that doesn't belong anywhere obvious. A quarter that went sideways for reasons nobody planned for. A report that technically runs but doesn't tell the real story. A file that worked fine until it didn't.

That's not failure. That's business.

The goal isn't a perfect row of ducks. The goal is knowing what's actually in your row, ducks, pigeons, and all, so you can make decisions from truth instead of assumption.

Clarity doesn't require perfection.
It requires honesty.

Check your row, and don't be surprised or ashamed by what you find.

Yesterday, we took a step away from our usual tasks and spent some intentional time together as a team.

No agendas. No project deadlines. Just conversation.

We talked about family, upcoming trips, personal goals, passions, new experiences, and the things that matter outside of work. It was a chance to learn more about each other as people, not just coworkers.

It's easy to get caught up in deliverables, meetings, and the day-to-day demands of running a business. But moments like these are a reminder that strong teams aren't built solely through work, they're built through connection, trust, and genuine relationships.

The conversations were simple, but the impact was meaningful.

Grateful for a team that shows up, supports one another, and continues to grow together both professionally and personally.

Today is National Say Something Nice Day, and honestly, it's a good reminder in business and in life.

Success isn't built on transactions alone. It's built on relationships, trust, encouragement, and the people who choose to support, refer, and believe in what we do.

So today, I'm taking a moment to say thank you.

Thank you to our clients who trust us with their businesses. Thank you to our partners who collaborate with us. Thank you to the friends, family, and fellow entrepreneurs who continue to show up, offer support, and cheer each other on.

A few kind words can change someone's entire day. A little appreciation can strengthen a relationship. And sometimes, the simplest gestures have the biggest impact.

Here's your reminder to send that text, make that call, leave that review, or simply tell someone they're doing a great job.

Kindness costs nothing, but it creates tremendous value.

And when every layer works together?
You get clarity, confidence, and a stronger business.
Good accounting builds strong foundations.

I’m definitely more tech these days , automation, AI, dashboards, digital workflows, all of it. But I still love the feeling of writing things down without having stacks of paper everywhere.

That’s why these e-ink tablets have become such a sweet spot for me.

I get the organization and flexibility of digital systems while still being able to handwrite notes, map out ideas, and visually plan things in a way my brain actually likes.

Less paper.
Less clutter.
Still personal.
Still productive.

Not everything has to be fully digital to be efficient.
And not everything on paper has to feel outdated.

Sometimes the best workflow is the one that helps your brain breathe.

As a business owner, one of my favorite things is logging into our software and seeing updates that actually make our work better.

Today was one of those days.

I logged into our systems and immediately got excited seeing new updates focused on streamlining services, improving automation, and creating cleaner data flow.

Constantly looking for improvements just just for our clients but internally as well.

Those small improvements matter.
They save time.
Reduce manual work.
Create consistency.
And ultimately help us serve clients better.

At Beyond Numbers, we are constantly looking for ways to improve processes and build smarter workflows because efficiency isn’t just about speed, it’s about creating clarity and better decision-making.

Today, Beyond Numbers pauses to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸 In observance of Memorial Day, our office is closed today. We will return Tuesday, May 27th. Thank you to all who have served. 🌹

Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending the WAVE - Women in Accounting, Visionaries, and Entrepreneurship in Seattle.

Here's what I'm took with me:

What I Was Reminded Of:
Success doesn't look the same for everyone, and that's not a flaw, it's a feature. This year's theme, *2SUCCESS*, was a powerful reminder that our paths are our own. Comparing your chapter 1 to someone else's chapter 10 helps no one. Define what success means to "you", and pursue that unapologetically.

What I Learned:
What's best for the client isn't always what's best for you and I learned I'm not alone in that. As someone in this industry, it's easy to pour everything into serving others. Knowing where your business ends and your boundaries begin is something so many of us are navigating together.

The People:
The women in that room reminded me why community matters. We are not on this journey alone. Surrounding yourself with people who understand the grind, celebrate your wins, and show up authentically — that's priceless. I left feeling grateful for every connection made and renewed.

The Journey:
This industry is not easy. There are hard days, uncertain days, and days that test everything you have. But here's what I keep coming back to: if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. The difficulty is part of what makes it meaningful. Keep going.
