Leonard Womack Hutson, age 84, passed away on March 21, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born on September 21, 1941, in Lufkin, Texas, Leonard was raised in the same East Texas soil that shaped his work ethic, his character, and his steady way of living.
Leonard was a man defined by service—to his country, his community, and his family. He proudly served in the United States Army for 21 years as a Major and was a decorated Purple Heart recipient and Vietnam Veteran. After his military service, he continued his commitment to duty through 29 years of civil service at Fort Polk, where he served as a logistics Officer. His dedication didn’t stop there—Leonard was a faithful and active member of the American Legion Post 145 for over 49 years, holding numerous roles and continuing to serve long after his uniform was retired.
On August 3, 1962, Leonard married the love of his life, Ruby Lea (Willis) Hutson. For 64 years, they walked through life together-traveling the world, sharing every season, and building a life rooted in loyalty, resilience, and quiet strength. From that foundation grew a family that meant everything to him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Lea Willis Hutson; his children, Darla (Hutson) Reines and husband Earl Reines, Delisa (Hutson) Parker and husband Mike Parker, and Lenny Hutson; his grandson Sean Bradley; his granddaughter Katlyn (Bradley) Carpenter and husband Brad Carpenter; and his great-granddaughter Penelope Bradley. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Gonzales, niece, Della Gonzales and nephew, Lewis Gonzales.
Leonard was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Hutson, and his grandson, Patrick Bradley.
Outside of his work and service, Leonard found joy in the simple, steady things—fishing, caring for his home, spending time with his pets, and most of all, being with his family. He was a man who didn’t need the spotlight to lead. His strength showed up in consistency, in presence, and in the quiet way he took care of those around him.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a steady father, a proud veteran, and a man who lived with purpose and honor. The kind of man who showed up, did the work, and never asked for recognition.
The viewing will be held at Jeane’s Funeral Home on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Followed by burial at the Veterans Cemetery at Fort Polk.
A life of service. A life of strength. A life well lived.
