We-Cycle
To responsibly and safely redistribute used and refurbished bicycles to homeless or at-risk members of the community. Welcome to We-Cycle! Thank you!
We are a needs-based provider of bicycle transportation for those experiencing, or at-risk of, homelessness in our community. The barriers experienced by these individuals may be extensive, and We-Cycle strives to fill this niche service sector, in order to support these individuals. While bicycle transportation may be an ideal option for some, there are many in our community who cannot afford to

Community Notice
Through a partnership between the City of Ames - City Government, the Ames Iowa Repair Café, and dedicated KHOI volunteers, a new bicycle pump has been installed at KHOI-FM Radio. This valuable community resource was made possible through collaboration and a shared commitment to supporting sustainable transportation, community connections, and mobility for residents and visitors alike.
Unfortunately, there have been reports of attempts to damage or steal the pump. We respectfully ask everyone to help protect this resource so that it remains available for all who need it.
Ames is fortunate to have many community resources that support cyclists, including places where tires can be inflated at no cost. If purchasing a pump is not an option, there are alternatives available throughout the community.
Please do not remove, damage, or vandalize this pump. It was installed for the benefit of everyone and represents the generosity, hard work, and community spirit of many local partners and volunteers. By treating shared resources with care and respect, we can help ensure they remain available for all who rely on them.
Thank you for helping keep Ames a welcoming, connected, and bicycle-friendly community.

Rebuilding Lives, One Bike at a Time 🚲
Hi Ames! We’ve received a lot of interest lately and want to clarify how We-Cycle works so we can better serve our community.
We-Cycle is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our specific mission is to redistribute refurbished bicycles to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability to help them access work, appointments, and essential services.
Important Note: We are not a public retail storefront, a general "free bike scheme," or a delivery service. Because our inventory and volunteer hours are limited, we prioritize referrals from our dedicated local partner agencies, including: The Bridge Home (formerly Emergency Residence Project), Access Women’s and Children’s Shelter, Ames Interfaith Refugee Alliance, Youth and Shelter Services (YSS), Optimae Life Services, Boys and Girls Clubs, Wings of Refuge, Harmony Closet, Romero House, Ames Repair Cafe, Habitat for Humanity, Overflow Thrift Store, Mainstream Living, and the Ames Mosque.
How You Can Help:
We are always looking for volunteers—whether you’re an experienced mechanic or someone who wants to help with coordination and logistics.
How to Donate a Bicycle:
We are currently accepting adult bicycles, whether they are in good working order or in need of repair.
We also welcome donations of spare bicycle parts.
Please contact us at 515-992-0056 to schedule a drop-off by appointment.
Please note that we are unable to accept children's bicycles; we encourage you to donate those to local thrift stores in Ames.
Need a Bike?
If you are working with a local social service or charitable agency: Please have your case manager or representative contact us directly on your behalf.
If you are looking to purchase a bike: We encourage you to support our local bike shops and thrift stores in Ames! You can find a list of local options in the thread below.
Interested in volunteering or supporting our shop upgrades? You can learn more or donate via our page, email us at [email protected], or via Venmo https://www.venmo.com/u/wecyclecommunity .
Thank you for helping us keep Ames moving!
