Today is expected to be very hot, and our pets feel the heat even more than we do. Here are some simple ways to keep them safe, cool, and comfortable:
💧 Hydration is everything
Make sure fresh, cool water is available at all times—indoors and outdoors.
🌳 Limit outdoor time
Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when pavement and air temps are cooler.
🧊 Cool zones matter
Provide shaded areas, fans, or air conditioning so pets can fully escape the heat.
🐕 Never leave pets in vehicles
Even a few minutes can become life-threatening—temperatures rise dangerously fast.
🐾 Check the pavement test
If it’s too hot for your hand for 5–7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws.
🍦 Cool treats help
Frozen treats can help bring body temperature down safely.
🚨 Watch for heat stress signs
Heavy panting, drooling, weakness, or disorientation = seek help immediately.

Leptospirosis (Lepto) is a bacterial disease that dogs can contract through contact with contaminated water, soil, or wildlife urine. It can cause severe illness affecting the kidneys and liver, and in some cases can be life-threatening.
⚠️ Dogs may be exposed while:
🌊Walking through puddles or standing water
⛺Visiting parks, trails, or campgrounds
🦌Spending time in yards frequented by wildlife
🚱Drinking from outdoor water sources
Signs of Leptospirosis may include lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, increased thirst or urination or fever.

The Eslick family welcomed this beautiful little filly, Margo, over the weekend! Dr. Becky achieved a successful breeding on the mare's first heat cycle using cooled shipped semen.
We are so happy for this family! This is the very best part of our job. This mare holds so much sentimental value to her owners. It is great to see another generation of greatness in the making 🩷
