At Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and Texas Tech Physicians (TTP), our highest priority is ensuring that women across West Texas have reliable access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare. We are actively working to expand access to care and keep the focus where it belongs: on the patients and families we serve.

Recent public comments include inaccurate characterizations regarding TTP and our obstetrics practice. It is important to clarify that TTP did not employ the two physicians referenced.

West Texas faces a shortage of maternity care providers, making physician recruitment, retention and access to care a priority for our institution. TTP includes 24 general obstetricians, including 12 in Lubbock, who are accepting new patients and work alongside hospital-based laborists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurse practitioners and advanced practice registered nurses to provide comprehensive care for women throughout the region. Our team supports patients at every stage of life, offering preventive and routine gynecologic care, pregnancy and delivery services, inpatient care and a broad range of specialized women's health services.

Our specialty services include maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, menopause management, fertility care and reproductive health services. As the region's academic health center, TTUHSC and TTP remain committed to training future physicians, recruiting new providers, expanding access to care and ensuring women across West Texas receive the high-quality care they deserve.

We are actively working to meet patient scheduling needs and improve appointment availability, with a continued focus on ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care.

September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, and Texas Tech Physicians is at the forefront of efforts to improve awareness, early detection and access to treatment across West Texas.

Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancers in the U.S. and also one of the most treatable, especially when detected early. There are often few symptoms present in its earliest stages, which is why awareness and proactive evaluation are so important. Warning signs may include a lump in the neck, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing or unexplained changes in voice.
