When should the first dance actually happen?
There are two camps, and both make a strong case.
A first dance before dinner gives the reception an immediate sense of arrival. Everyone is already gathered, the couple is fresh from the ceremony, and the moment feels like a natural continuation of the formalities before the room settles in for dinner.
But waiting until after dinner changes the energy completely. The first dance becomes the cue that the evening is shifting gears, dinner is over, the lights come down, and the dance floor is officially open.
Neither option is inherently better. The right choice depends on the flow of the day, the energy you want in the room, and how you want the reception to build.
So, which are you choosing: first dance before dinner, or first dance after dinner to open the dance floor?

The kind of photographs that already feel like heirlooms.
There’s an ease to these portraits that makes them feel almost untouched by time. Nothing rushed, nothing forced, just two people getting a little space to be together in the middle of a very full day.
That kind of breathing room doesn’t happen by accident. One of our goals when building a wedding timeline is to make sure the schedule reflects what matters most to you, whether that means more time with family, a private moment before the reception, or enough space for portraits that don’t feel squeezed between everything else.
When the day flows the way it should, you get to be present for it.

At the beginning of a wedding weekend, there are usually two groups of people who know exactly where they belong.
Her people. His people.
And then somewhere between getting ready, standing at the altar, passing ch*****ne, fixing veils, straightening ties, and ending up on the same dance floor, the lines start to blur.
By the end of the night, it isn’t really two sides anymore. It’s one very happy, slightly exhausted, incredibly well-dressed group of people who now share the same stories.
One of our favorite things to watch is the moment “your friends” quietly becomes “our friends.”

The best bridal styling knows when to step back.
A sculpted silhouette, lace framing the face, an all-white bouquet, and nothing extraneous competing for attention. Every element feels considered, but never overworked, which leaves room for the most important part of the composition to come through: her.
It has the romance of another era, but the confidence feels completely current.

How to be the kind of wedding party member everyone remembers for the right reasons:
Show up on time. Keep the energy up. Help without needing to be asked. Know when the couple needs hype, when they need a hand, and when they need five quiet minutes to breathe.
Keep an eye on the little things too. A missing bouquet, a wrinkled jacket, an empty glass of water, a phone that needs holding. None of it feels important until suddenly it is.
Most importantly, remember that being in the wedding party is less about standing next to the couple for the ceremony and more about helping them enjoy the day they worked so hard to create.
