This week we are looking closely at the third Yama in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga, which is Asteya or non-stealing.
Of course, we know that taking without permission from others is something to avoid, but in what ways have we stolen from ourselves?
Some of the most common ways we steal from ourselves each day include:
Stealing Peace Through Overthinking.
We replay the past and feel anxious about the future. Both robs of us being fully present in each moment, which is really the only moment we have. ❤️
Stealing Our Potential By Remaining In Comfort Zones.
Letting self-doubts and fears dictate our decisions takes away from opportunities to grow ourselves into the person we deserve to be. ❤️
Stealing Joy Through Comparison.
When we compete and compare ourselves with others, we feel unhappy and disappointed with ourselves and leave little room for gratitude and joy for who we are and what we have in our lives. ❤️
In what ways have you stolen from yourself?
Stay tuned this week for more about this teaching from the Yoga Sutras and the ways in which we can learn about finding harmony and peace in our lives through Asteya.

Most people probably think cultivating mindfulness is boring…lots of sitting in meditation and silence. But, finding presence can mean creativity, play, and joy! Try spending a few minutes each day doing something that brings you some happiness. Being open to playful experiences will lead to a more positive and fulfilling day. Be joyfully you!

New blog post from me on my website available now. Check it out!
What CrossFit Taught Me About Satya I'm at the age where I'm a bit tired of my stories. You know what I mean? The same old stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Maybe it's the belief that you can't do something because you tried it once and it didn't ...

The second of the Yamas is Satya, or truthfulness. Of course, this means avoiding dishonesty in our interactions with others without causing harm (Ahimsa), but it also means finding our own truth. Practicing Satya means being honest with ourselves and living authentically.
How do we find our truth?
Practically speaking, we take time to listen to what our hearts and minds are already saying. Our inner wisdom is there…all we need to do is slow down and listen. Yoga and meditation give us the tools to tune into what is already present for us.
As we turn our focus to Satya this week, maybe pause and ask yourself:
What is your body telling you in this moment?
What is your personal truth?
Listen deeply to yourself. What do you hear?

Yoga is more than stretching and breathing! We’re diving into the core principles of yoga philosophy starting this month with an exploration of the Yamas and Niyamas.
Learning about and incorporating these ideas into our daily lives is the way in which we take our yoga practice out into the world with us. I’ve written about these concepts on my website at celestialchakrawellness.com.
Stay connected as we learn more about yoga together! Join our Sunday morning class this week as we put these ideas into practice.
We meet every Sunday morning at 9 am est to practice yoga together. You’re welcome to join us. More details on my website. This is a gentle yoga practice open to everyone…building our yoga community. This clip was taken from a recent class demonstrating standing cat cow.

Ahimsa is the first of the five Yamas (moral restraints) described in the Yoga Sutras. Ahimsa means non-harming or non-violence. It’s a reminder to live with compassion for others and ourselves. Our Sunday morning class this week will be dedicated to exploring Ahmisa as we set our intention to move with love. Everyone is welcome to join us. More info on my website.

Are you holding your breath at this moment? Notice what just happened when you read that line. Did you breathe in? Often the breath becomes shallow when we’re focused on something. Reading an email message. Working. Scrolling on a screen. Shallow breathing makes us feel tense, stressed, and anxious. Our nervous system then shifts into “fight or flight.” This changes our physical breathing pattern, which can trap us in a cycle of heightened anxiety. We often don’t even notice the breath or how it feels. Take a moment now to intentionally make your next inhale long and slow and see what happens.

There are so many things to distract us throughout the day, so much competing for our attention. The daily demands and “to do” lists pull us in a dozen different directions. It’s easy to get busy and burned out.
If you find yourself feeling ungrounded, overwhelmed, or a bit scattered, pause, take a few breaths, and ask yourself, “Where is my mind right now?” This works as a great reminder to bring yourself back into the present moment. ❤️
