Could there be more to the story than just a tongue tie?

In this week’s Wellness Wednesday, we’re exploring the “perfect storm”, the pregnancy, birth, and early life stressors that may impact a baby’s nervous system and contribute to challenges with feeding, digestion, sleep, and regulation.

When we understand the bigger picture, we can better understand what our babies may be trying to tell us.

Thank you for joining us for another Wellness Wednesday! And a very Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads and father figures who show up for their families every day. 💙

Join us next week as we wrap up our Tongue Tie Series and talk about what parents should know moving forward.

Have you ever been told, “That’s just normal baby stuff”? 👶

Spit-up, poor sleep, tummy time struggles, fussiness, and gassiness can be common, but when several happen together, it may be worth taking a closer look.

🚩 The signs of a tongue tie aren’t always in the mouth.

Many parents are told their baby will “grow out of it,” but feeding struggles, gassiness, poor sleep, colic-like symptoms, and even tummy time challenges can sometimes be connected to an underlying tongue tie.

Early recognition can make a huge difference in feeding, comfort, sleep, and overall development. If you’ve noticed any of these signs, it may be worth having your baby evaluated by a provider trained in oral function and development.

💬 Have you noticed any of these signs in your little one? Let us know below!

What if a tongue tie isn’t just a tongue tie?

Many parents are told feeding challenges are simply a latch issue or a structural issue. But what if the nervous system is part of the picture too?

When a baby’s nervous system is under stress, it can affect muscle tone throughout the body—including the muscles involved in feeding, swallowing, and latching.

That’s why some babies experiencing tongue tie symptoms may also struggle with reflux, sleep challenges, or difficulty settling.

In this week’s Wellness Wednesday, Dr. Kelly explores the connection between tongue ties, lip ties, and the nervous system.

Did any of these signs sound familiar? Let us know in the comments below. 👇

We’re celebrating Christy all week long! 🎉 If you see our amazing Office Manager, be sure to congratulate her on her 4-year workiversary and help us show her just how appreciated she is.

🚨 Feeding struggles aren’t always just feeding struggles.

When a baby has difficulty latching, seems uncomfortable while eating, clicks during feeds, wakes frequently at night, or struggles to settle, parents are often told they’ll grow out of it.

But sometimes those challenges can be connected to a tongue tie.

Tongue ties can impact feeding, sleep, oral development, and overall function. While every child is different, understanding the signs can help parents make informed decisions and get the support they need.

Most importantly, trust your instincts. You know your baby better than anyone else. If something feels off, it’s worth exploring.
