From: Pasadena Humane
One month ago, nine-year-old Baby was found abandoned at a park in Pasadena, his leash tied to a fence. Nearby, there was a note that read: "Baby. Free. Thanks." We are grateful that a kind bystander noticed the little dog and brought him to Pasadena Humane.
At first, Baby would bark at people who passed by his kennel, but he blossomed into such a different dog outside of his kennel! Baby loves giving kisses, walks great on a leash, and has been a star at our mobile adoption events, where he has enjoyed attention from kids and adults of all ages. Baby has so much love to give, and we can't wait for him to become someone's cherished litlte guy!

RECIPE OF THE DAY
Coconut Cream Pie
🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥
🔸️Ingredients
• 1 pie crust
• 8 large egg yolks
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup cornstarch
• 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
• 2 cups whole milk
• 1 (13.5-oz.) can unsweetened coconut milk
• 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
• 3 Tbsp. butter, softened
🔸️For the topping
• 1 cup cold heavy cream
• 1/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract
• 1/4 cup powdered sugar
• 1/2 cup toasted sweetened coconut flakes
🔸️Directions
▪️Step 1) Bake crust: Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12” circle. Drape over 9” pie dish and gently press to fit (don’t stretch). Prick bottom with a fork, trim edge to 1”, tuck overhang under itself, and crimp. Refrigerate 30 minutes or freeze 10 minutes. Line crust with parchment and fill with dried beans or pie weights. Bake 30 minutes, then remove parchment and weights. Return to oven and bake until crust is golden and completely baked through, 20 minutes more. Set on rack to let cool completely.
▪️Step 2) In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. Mixture will be very thick.
▪️Step 3) Then, to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, add milk, coconut milk, and vanilla and bring just to a simmer. Once simmering, slowly add a ladleful of the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly, until combined. Slowly pour egg mixture into the saucepan, whisking to incorporate. Let cook until very thick, 2-3 minutes more, whisking constantly.
▪️Step 4) Remove from heat, strain through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl, and stir in butter. Let sit, or refrigerate with a piece of plastic wrap directly on top of the custard, and cool completely.
▪️Step 5) Make whipped cream: In a medium bowl, add heavy cream, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Using a handheld mixer or whisk, whip until stiff peaks just begin to form.
▪️Step 6) Assemble pie: Fill pie crust with cooled coconut custard, smooth out, and transfer to the refrigerator until completely set, about 2 hours more. Then, top with a heaping pile of whipped cream and sprinkle with toasted coconut.

🔺️MEETING TONIGHT
Pasadena Unified to Replace Fire-Contaminated Soil, Nearly 200 Trees at 11 Campuses and Sites This Summer
State-ordered Eaton Fire remediation will haul away roughly 13,400 tons of soil across an estimated 613 truckloads at a projected cost of $6.6 million.
A Pasadena Unified School District plan calls for the removal of nearly 200 trees across 11 campuses. Advocates believe at least 16 trees have been felled so far. The district says it’s due to potential soil contamination caused by the Eaton Fire.
Two students, 17-year-old Paloma Munaiz-Ochoa and 18-year-old Jasper Bang are now tree sitting to protect one oak.

EIGHTEEN MONTHS
By Leslie Aitken
Eighteen months
Since the cataclysm
That changed our lives.
Exiling us from our homes
And into chaos.
The first adrenaline - filled
Year ended in a blur.
A milestone endured.
We are grateful to be alive
And tired.
The second year seems
Harder and tedious.
Filled with forms, papers,
Applications, phone calls,
And waiting.
Last week, I sobbed on
The phone with a stranger
Who is trying to help me,
But needs more documents.
My doctor prescribed
Cymbalta.
As if how I feel is a disorder.
Many of us lost everything
We owned, friends,
Neighbors, family, pets.
The reality of another year's
Wait is likely.
Until we go "home"
To a lot once familiar on
A street we used to know,
To a house imagined
Under duress.
Alone, and often lonely.
Financial and health
Issues are my new friends.
"What am I doing?"
My most frequent query.
Three score and thirteen
Years, arrive for me
On August 23rd.
As does 50 years in
Altadena.
What would I tell that
Fresh-faced girl now?
NOTHING!
I'm still writing, and
Don't want to spoil the
Ending!🙂🩷

HAVE YOU GONE TO EL PATRON FOR KARAOKE?
Maggie started featuring karaoke at El Patron last November. I went Friday night with my daughter, granddaughter, and her "glee kid" friends.
We had a lot of fun...good food, family, friends and fun! And yours truly got up there a couple of times too.🙂
