Enjoy nearby hiking, vibrant cafes, and the boutiques of Old Pasadena. Explore the offerings of our Creative Living Partners, including The Huntington Botanical Gardens, the Pasadena Playhouse, and Symphony and the Altadena Historical Society. An architectural style, inspired by California's Spanish COlonial and Mediterranean roots, creates spaces full of light and vitality, perfect for gathering with friends and entertaining family.
A special thank you to Hans Allhoff, of Altadena Heritage, for his wonderful lecture titled “Zane Grey, the Open and Altadena.” The audience filled Eaton Theater and an overflow room, everyone enjoying the entertaining and informative talk.
The wonderful music of Larry Koonse (guitar) and Alex Iles (trombone) filled MonteCedro this week, in a concert arranged by our Creative Living partners Melodia Mariposa. The residents loved the unique combination of guitar and trombone, as they relaxed and enjoyed an hour of jazz music.
This week Executive Chef Jared, presented a teaching kitchen about the super foods that keep you strong! He made a very healthy and delicious nut & seed bark that the residents loved! Each month the dining team holds a special educational lecture and highlights a super food on the menu. A dinner based on "Classic Literature," was the theme of the Chefs Table dinner this month. Executive Chef Jared Oliver created courses that were unique, delicious, and creatively tied to the books they represented. From the words of "Gilgamesh," to the story of the "The Great Gatsby," he took the residents on a culinary journey as wonderful as the books they represented.
Making life spectacular! Today a group of residents toured the “Hospital of Emotions” exhibit and then headed into downtown Los Angeles for lunch at the Grand Central Market. Art, color, energy…the flavor of the day! It was a wonderful experience and the residents who attended enjoyed a day well spent exploring art and enjoying the food choices at the market.
The stunning Vieness Piano Duo performed “Works by Mozart, Dvorak, Ravel,” for the residents today. The music filled the community with its beauty and energy. Such a fantastic way to spend the morning, with two incredible concert pianists. Thank you Eva and Vijay!
Today, we welcomed Dan Lewis. Mr. Lewis is an environmental historian and the Senior Curator for the History of Science and Technology at The Huntington. Residents filled Eaton Theater, and an overflow room, to listen to Mr. Lewis’ lecture “Twelve Trees: The Deep Roots of our Future.” Everyone was fascinated by the talk and it sparked wonderful conversation over lunch.
The residents enjoyed a “Jazz” Happy Hour with the Chad Edward’s Band last night. Wonderful music filled Station 8, as residents sipped their beverages and enjoyed time with friends.
