Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. 💚🧡
💕For kids, it can show up as irritability, pulling away from friends, losing interest in things they usually enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, trouble concentrating, or feeling hopeless or worthless. If you notice changes that last two weeks or more, start with a conversation. Listen, validate their feelings, and remind them they don’t have to work through it alone. If you’re concerned, connect with your child’s pediatrician or school counselor for support. We can give a child is hope and a safe place to talk.

🚒When wildfire strikes, every layer of protection matters. Thank you to the California Fire Foundation for a generous grant that helps Five Acres protect the children, staff, and residential facilities at our Altadena campus. With this new fire suppression system, we can use water from our swimming pool to help fight a fire if needed. Prepared today and ready when it matters most. 💚🧡

For children and teens, protection can grow through everyday connection: a conversation at the dinner table, chatting in the car, routine activities together. Simple time without screens and a trusted adult who listens. A parent/caregiver who says, “I’m here for you.” These small moments build trust, coping skills and a sense of belonging. And that matters when life gets hard. You don’t have to wait for a crisis to make a difference. Connection is prevention, too. 💚🧡
