Saturday was a truly moving day at the Dole Mansion as McHenry County Gold Star Legacies hosted its Gold Star Remembrance Day program. Local mayors and community leaders came together to read the names of the brave McHenry County men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country since World War I. Adding to the powerful atmosphere, U.S. Army veteran and author Mark Hutson shared his collection of flags from WWII throughout the Dole. The ceremony unveiled a stunning, custom-designed McHenry County Gold Star Service Flag featuring 293 stars to permanently honor our local heroes.
