Virtual Sunday Brunch with Tuesday Musical plus a side of Beethoven lore! International pianist, recording artist and educator Caroline Oltmanns performed the Allegro con brio movement of Beethoven's "Waldstein Sonata" for the Tuesday Musical Members Program in September. She started by sharing with the audience that Beethoven had no hearing when he wrote the composition that is probably his most celebrated. Caroline is a Professor of Piano at Youngstown State University.

We don't know about you but half the fun of virtual Sunday Brunch with Tuesday Musical is the anticipation of performances from local musical artists. On this week's "menu" is Beethoven's "Waldstein Sonata" first movement performed by internationally celebrated pianist Caroline Oltmanns, Pianist, who is a faculty member at Youngstown State University. Sunday Brunch with Tuesday Musical will stretch your imagination from the break of day to music that celebrates the sunset, in particular sunsets in Yosemite National Park. Dr. Christopher Blaha on tuba and Dr. Jamie Wilding on piano play "Golden Hour" by composer Cait Nishimura for the September Tuesday Musical Members Program. Drs. Wilding and Blaha are faculty members of The University of Akron School of Performing Arts. Dr. Wilding is also a Tuesday Musical Board member.

Tuesday Musical members welcomed the new Director of Artistic Operations and Community Education, Tanner Cassidy, at his first event, the September Members Program! He took some time to meet and greet members and ended the lovely afternoon talking with, left to right, Elaine Guregian and Pat Sargent, top right photo. Tanner took over for Austin Ferguson who became Tuesday Musical Executive Director with the retirement of Cynthia Snider earlier this year. Nestled in a shaded nook for tea after the performance were, left to right, Nancy Irby, Judi Brenner and Bruce Hagelin.

Music by Bach has been popular with the young artists we've been featuring for our Sunday Brunch with Tuesday Musical series this summer! Hear a unique Bach performance on the marimba by Jonathan Cooley, a student at the University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music. He plays Bach's "Cello Suite No. 5, Prelude" for the 2026 Tuesday Musical Final Round/Winners Concert in May.

Jonathan won a spot on the concert stage by competing in the 2026 scholarship competition where he was awarded the Tuesday Musical Percussion Scholarship. Both the competition and concert were on The University of Akron campus. A percussionist for 12 years, Jonathan is pursuing a master’s degree in percussion performance at the University of Cincinnati. He has a bachelor’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Alabama.

Begun in 1955 and with significant scholarships, Tuesday Musical’s annual competition is widely recognized as the best of its kind in Ohio for talented students embarking on careers as music educators and performers.
