What even is a data center? In this video, we break it down in plain English β€” no tech jargon required. You'll learn what a data center actually is, what goes on inside those massive windowless buildings, and why they secretly power almost everything you do online. From streaming your favorite shows to sending texts to saving photos in the cloud β€” data centers make it all happen. Plus, we'll explain why you should care, even if you've never stepped foot in one. Spoiler: your digital life depends on them.

If you've ever wondered where "the cloud" really lives, this is the video for you. Hit like, subscribe, and stick around for more simple tech explainers!

✊LUTHERAN HOSPITAL STRIKE STARTS TOMORROW 9/23 AT NOON 🌹 Cleveland DSA stands with SEIU 1199 workers as they demand an end to unfair treatment!

Workers and community members gathered today to show support and demand Cleveland Clinic show up and bargain in good faith, rather than continue with illegal union busting. Workers who run the hospitals' food, cleaning and other services are going on an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike tomorrow after unfair treatment during contract negotiations. Cleveland Clinic is refusing to bargain over healthcare coverage, while workers are struggling with low pay, low staffing, and unjust surveillance of off the clock behavior. A multibillion dollar organization whose CEO makes ~$10 million a year can afford to help workers, instead of trying to exploit and control them.

OHIO VOTERS: LET’S ASK OUR REPRESENTATIVES TO TAKE A PLEDGE.

We’re asking candidates and elected representatives across Ohio to make a clear public commitment:
No money. No gifts. No sponsored travel. No material support from foreign governments or lobbying organizations, including Israel and AIPAC.

Our representatives should be accountable to the people of Ohio. And as genocide and apartheid continue in Palestine, we are asking our elected officials to reject financial relationships with organizations enacting policies that contribute to human rights violations.

✍🏽 HOW TO SEND THE LETTER
1. CLICK THE LINK and enter your information.
2. SEND IT TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES/CANDIDATES.
3. This letter is going to candidates across the state. You may need to enter unique information, such as a subject line.
4. PERSONALIZE IT if you want, or use the default letter provided.
5. SEND IT β€” THEN SHARE IT! Get your friends, family, coworkers, and community involved.
6. FOLLOW UP. Call the campaigns and ask whether the candidate will make this commitment publicly.
This is how we build accountability: send the letter, make the call, and keep asking.

🚨 FACT 5: If all of this has you more than a little worried β€” here's the good news. It's not hypothetical, and it's not hopeless.

According to anti-surveillance group DeFlock, 95 cities have rejected ALPR systems or turned their existing cameras off. A few examples close to home:

βœ… Cleveland's Public Safety Committee voted against renewing its Flock contract in June
βœ… Green City Council recently rejected a proposal to implement Flock cameras
βœ… In 2022, Hudson City Council declined to even take up a vote β€” telling the Akron Beacon Journal that "too many residents came forward and said they don't want it"

One thing so many of these wins have in common? Residents showed up and voiced their disapproval.

We can β€” and should β€” do the same thing here in Akron. πŸ“’

That's all 5 facts. Now it's our turn. Follow to stay in the loop on next steps.

🚨 FACT #4: "But Flock cameras reduce crime." Do they?

The LAPD just declined to renew its Flock contract β€” and one reason was the AI-powered cameras' high error rates. An audit by the LAPD Office of the Inspector General found the cameras generated 161 false stolen vehicle reports in just two months. Every single one meant officers pulling over a driver in a car that wasn't stolen.

Meanwhile, only 337 alerts actually led to recovering a stolen vehicle. That's a 32% error rate.

So on top of the privacy concerns and data security risks, you could get pulled over one day after doing absolutely nothing wrong β€” because an AI made a mistake.

Does this sound like technology we want in our community? πŸ‘‡

Follow for Fact #5.
