Official page of The Applegate House Then in the early 1990’s The Applegate Family purchased the property, slowly renovating it as the years went on.
Built in 1927 shortly before The Great Depression, it was one of the first homes to be erected on the Oakland Avenue block in the North Hill Neighborhood, Akron’s International District. Sitting at roughly 1500 square feet in size it is one of the largest and tallest houses on the block, featuring a signature brick chimney that’s nearly 4 stories in height. Over the decades not much was changed around the property, it’s original exterior wood siding and interior hardwood floors all managed to survive. Today it sits as a shining example of what the American dream is all about. Now for nearly a century countless families, their children born and raised here have called this place home. We believe it is critical to continue it’s preservation for the future generations, as well as preserving part of North Hill’s history.
Later this evening we are switching over our Smart LED landscape lighting to Halloween colors and will begin decorating 🎃

🎃Akron, get ready to BOOst your Halloween spirit at our annual Trick or Treat celebration happening on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 5-7pm.
💡Any resident that wishes to participate day of and pass out candy can do so by turning on their porch light during the designated time frame.
🍬Akron Police Department officers will be on patrol throughout the evening and will pay special attention to children and families walking through city neighborhoods. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and remain especially alert in residential neighborhoods during Trick or Treat hours.
👽And the fun doesn't stop there! There are plenty of spooktacular events happening throughout October such as Akron Zoo's Boo at the Zoo, Downtown Akron Partnership's Fall Fest, Akron Art Museum's Circa Thriller Dance Party and more!

This week we are flying our Scottish Royal Banner (Lion Rampant) Flag in support of a free and independent Scotland. We also stand with Wales, and Northern Ireland in their same efforts for referendum.
A rainbow was photographed overtop of the property earlier this evening after the storm passed. A truly rare and significant photo opportunity! 🌈

It’s been a challenging summer getting to this point (lots of watering) but it’s finally paying off. The Applegate House publicly denounces the City of Akron, Ohio - Mayor's Office unenforceable so called “ban” on fireworks.
We believe celebrating Independence Day with backyard fireworks has & must always continue to be an American tradition / pastime.
Once our government begins to harass and punish the common civilian for irrelevancies, while incapable of solving real serious crimes, we slip further into dystopia.
We stand in support of safe fireworks storage and usage.
Always Remember:
-Never hold a lit firework in your hands.
- Light fireworks one-at-a-time and then move back quickly.
-Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not gone off.
-always light fireworks in a wide open area away from trees, houses and other structures.
- Have a fire extinguisher, garden hose or bucket of water ready incase of an accident.
