Doty is going over a custom Collings CJ that absolutely deserves the close-up treatment.

From the front, it’s all class: Jet Black Sitka spruce top, tigerstripe pickguard, ebony board, and that big slope-shouldered CJ silhouette.

Then you flip it around and the guitar really shows off.

Figured maple back and sides.
Figured maple neck.
Made in Austin, Texas.

The maple gives this CJ a clear, focused voice with a tighter low end and a fast attack, while the larger body still gives you the size and authority you want from a big acoustic.

Elegant from the front. Wild from the back. Very Collings.

Available now at Tone Shop Guitars.

Doty is going over one of the rarest Gibson Custom Shop pieces we’ve had come through the shop.

This is a 2005 Gibson Custom ’56 Les Paul Aged by Tom Murphy — an unofficial Neil Young “Old Black” replica commissioned for Yamano in Japan.

Under 10 of these are believed to exist.

Tom Murphy aging, aged hardware, Bigsby, P-90 neck pickup, Firebird-style bridge pickup, the blower switch - it has it all.

Available now at Tone Shop Guitars. DM us or call Addison at 972-661-8663.

Doty goes over a Collings custom he designed, and this one has a very specific thing going on.

Jet Black finish, Tree of Life fingerboard, Adirondack spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, and all the dressed-up D-42 details.

The look is obvious. The sound is the part that really gets you. Big, clean, open, and honestly even better than it looks.

Seriously. It’s insane.

If this one feels familiar, you probably know exactly why.

JHS turned a real production mistake into a pedal.

Meet the Fumble — a compact JFET clean boost built from the circuit that accidentally ended up in the NOTADÜMBLË V1.

The short version: JHS thought they had loaded one Dumble-adjacent clean circuit into that pedal. They later realized it was a different circuit entirely — one originally cloned from the Dumble BBC-1, which itself traces back to a ’70s Barcus Berry acoustic preamp design.

So instead of burying the story, they owned it and built the circuit as its own pedal.

Two k***s. True bypass. $89. Assembled in Kansas City.

Output handles volume. Input is where it gets interesting — it attenuates bass and input gain at the front of the circuit, letting you tighten the feel, push drives, hit the front of an amp, or use it as a clean solo boost.

The new JHS Fumble is available now at Tone Shop Guitars.

Doty goes over two guitars you almost never see together.

Gibson Custom Jimmy Page “Number One” and “Number Two” Les Paul Standards.

The Number One is #10 of 150 from 2004, Tom Murphy aged.

The Number Two is #17 of only 25 aged and signed examples from 2009 — Tom Murphy aged, inspected, played, and signed by Jimmy Page.

Two incredibly rare Custom Shop pieces tied to one of the most important Les Paul players of all time.

Five years of Austin at Tone Shop.

A lot can happen in five years — guitar shows, shop projects, late nights, countless guitars, and more ideas than we can reasonably approve in a normal business week.

Austin’s been a big part of the team through it all, bringing passion for gear, creativity, good humor, and a real investment in what makes Tone Shop… Tone Shop.

Happy 5 years, Austin. We’re glad you’re here.

Doty goes over a Jackson Custom Shop Kelly we designed — and this one is not trying to be subtle.

White Bengal finish, matching painted neck, black hardware, neck-thru construction, Floyd Rose, and the classic JB / ’59 pickup combo.

It’s aggressive in all the right ways, but still feels like a serious Custom Shop instrument — fast, precise, and built to be pushed.

Aaron from Powers Electric goes over an A-Type in Graphite Metallic.

Not every Powers needs to be loud to stop you.

This one is darker, cleaner, and a little more understated than some of the finishes we’ve had come through — black hardware, black guard, black pickup covers, and that Graphite Metallic finish is like a stealth bomber - black in the dark, but really pops in the light.

Loaded with FF42s, it has that open, articulate thing Powers Electric pickups do so well. Super responsive, easy to control, and a great example of why the A-Type has become such a strong modern guitar.

Doty goes over a seriously clean vintage 1965 Stratocaster.

Original mid-’60s Strat feel. Killer patina. Textbook Target Burst - and it sounds incredible.

We love vintage guitars — not because they’re old, but because the great ones have a personality that’s hard to explain until one’s in your hands.

Got a vintage guitar, amp, or collection you’re thinking about moving? We buy and consign vintage gear every day. Reach out to our team — we’d love to talk.

It's Teaburst Tuesday at Tone Shop - three Les Pauls, three different flavors of tea.

’58 Iced Tea Burst — bigger neck, understated top, and a classic iced tea finish.

’59 Royal Teaburst Light Aged — Murphy Lab aging, killer flame, and that unmistakable Royal Teaburst finish with just a bit more of a fade going on than the standard Iced tea.

’60 Iced Tea Burst — slimmer neck profile in a classic Iced Tea finish, but wow, just look at that top!

No wrong answers here.

Which one are you taking?
