My name is Bobo Makasi.
I’m a congolee by nationality and resident in United States of America I lived as a refugee in Uganda for 12 years after fleeing from D.R Congo because of war and insecurities that made me become an orphan at 12 years.
Due to the lack of jobs in Africa, most of youths are idle and can easily get involved in smoking weed, stealing, raping and other law breaking engagements.
Personally I didn't want to see my fellow youth spoiling their lives through those practices. That is why I got the idea of creating a soccer team to promote peace, love and unity as a way of keeping my fellow youths together and busy.
As I was growing up, my pleasure was to serve people. The aim of creating Makasi FC in 2005 was to bring hopeless youth together and share Joy, happiness thus discontinuing habits of stealing, smoking weed, rapping lawbreaking and idleness.
I started playing soccer from the age of three years with the support of my brothers. They were very happy to see me playing soccer. At the age of 16 yrs, I started a team without any ball neither jersey and we used to to play with open flip-flop and I used to go to soccer playing ground where other youth were playing. What was funny is that I had no money to by a ball. Therefore, I used to be at the back of the goal waiting for them to kick ball and I could grab it and run away.
I was doing all this because I had no money to buy it by that time. I know that it wasn’t a good idea but it was the only choice I had. I could go door by door to do some fundraising to enable me to buy a ball. That was funny but since I had an objective, I fought to attend to it.
It was obvious that people needed to be taught how to fish instead of giving them the fish itself, I called up on the attention of some refugee offices like inter Aid and UNCHR who supported us with Jessy after winning my first soccer trophy.
From a simple soccer team i succeeded to found MRF which is a refugee led orgazation( foundation) hosting 500 to 800 beneficiaries on a daily basis, duly registered both here in the USA(with IRS approval) and in Africa,Uganda with the aim of supporting refugees and the local population and making them self-reliant people through vocational trainings, livelyhood and psycho-social support offered to them.
I am hereby calling up on the awareness of this audience as I'm humbly requesting you to visit our website( www.makasirescuefoundation.com) or contacting me through +12088018604 to get involved in one way or another for any support in order to save these people in need through MRF
MRF has been implementing Refugees skills training program in kampala Uganda to empower the refugees and the host community with skills for self-reliance
Refugees need self-reliance to become happy and contribute in the development of the countries that are hosting them. Otherwise they will always depend on others for happiness.
