The DLIA Project that empowers artisans from around the Africa, especially refugees who find themselves starting a new life here. Meet Mutete Maria standing near her new established firm, she has generated funds to establish this firm through a sewing machine. We strive to provide a safe, welcoming place where they can gather to sew, knit, crochet, weave and bead to create beautiful handmade items. The ladies who join us each week are from places like Burundi, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ugandans.
The women receive 60% of the sales price of the items they create enabling them to help provide for themselves and their families. The staff members who support these ladies are all volunteers from the community. The items made at The DLIA Project are for sale in our on-site shop, at events in the community and online.
