WEEDING ACTIVITY

The w**ding activity was successfully completed. The demonstration farm is now clean and crops are free from w**d competition, allowing for better access to nutrients, water and sunlight.

During the exercise, all 15 farmers were trained on proper w**ding techniques and good agronomic practices.

While at the demonstration farm, the agronomist recommended timely w**ding as a critical practice to ensure proper growth and maintain healthy crops, as it helps prevent crops from competing with w**ds for essential nutrients, water and sunlight.

FIELD ACTIVITY REPORT: PLANTING TRAINING

With the onset of the seasonal rains, we have today successfully completed a practical training on modern planting methods in the new community of Buteba Subcounty.

A total of 15 farmers admitted in Group 11 actively participated and acquired hands-on skills in:

1. Pe***ng and proper field layout
2. Quality seed selection
3. Correct fertilizer application. DAP was used in maize
4. Recommended spacing and planting depth for optimal growth
5. Row planting for easy management
6. Seed treatment and dressing before planting. Rhizobia was used in legumes

We thank the Government Subcounty Agricultural Officer of Buteba Subcounty, who visited us during the training to monitor our activities

MELAC 10th Graduation 🎓

We successfully held the MELAC 10th Graduation Ceremony, and graduated yet another group of dedicated 15 farmers.

The grounds were full of joy, dancing, and pride as our graduates celebrated their victory!

✅ Political leaders from both the host community and new community where Melac demonstration farm is
✅ Mr. Lumumba Patrick – Renowned businessman & farmer, who delivered the keynote on Moving Beyond Subsistence to Wealth Creation
✅ CEO, Jitoleze Foundation Uganda. A young leader passionate about equipping schools and communities with skills in improved and urban farming

Our graduates received certificates and graduation gifts of improved seeds and seasonal farming calendars to help them continue growing.

The District Production Officer commended MELAC Agri Project for supporting government programs and pledged stronger collaboration going forward.

Update: Melac Demonstration Farm

The Melac Demonstration Farm has been fully cleared and is now ready for season two activities

We are prayerfully waiting for the onset of the seasonal rains. Once the rains begin, training for Group 11, will commence immediately.

Group 11 has already been oriented. They are prepared, eager, and ready to start their journey in advanced farming methods that will increase production and productivity.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL GROWING SEASON AND TRAINING

Melac Demonstration farm has concluded another successful growing season and farmer training program

Group ten Farmers have successfully completed their training on best agronomic practices at the Melac Demonstration Farm, with the last activity being harvesting.

From land preparation to the final cob in the truck, every training activity mattered.

It’s more than just farming. It’s food security, employment and hope for our communities

Early first w**ding is always recommended as it helps to fight competition between w**ds and crops for sunlight, nutrients and space which limits plant growth

Next step is top dressing of maize and foliar application on crops to boost performance

Today MELAC group 10 farmers of Ajuket community have successfully concluded a training on planting as a second activity after land preparations.

Lessons covered under planting included;

* Soil selection
* Seed selection
* Crop allocation. Deciding which crops go where
* Pe***ng
* Row planting. With spacing of 60cm*60cm used for maize and 30*15 on legumes
* Manure and fertilizer application
