Is Falsetto Your “Real” Voice?

Recently someone asked me a very interesting question:👇🏼

“Ok, falsetto is not your real voice, but is it good to use falsetto while singing?”

This is a great question, and many singers are confused about it.
So I decided to talk about it in a lesson, so that everyone would learn together.

In this lesson, we'll look at the following;

👉🏽Is Falsetto Your Real Voice?
👉🏽Falsetto vs Head Voice — What’s the Difference?
👉🏽Should You Use Falsetto While Singing?

OK... Let's get started..😊

Is Falsetto Your Real Voice?🤔💭

First, let’s address the big misunderstanding.

When people say “real voice”, they usually mean your modal voice — the voice you speak with every day.

But falsetto is your real voice because it's still produced by your vocal folds. It’s not artificial. It’s not fake. It’s simply a different vocal setup from your speaking voice. Although the meaning of the word falsetto is "false voice", but it doesn't mean it's not your real voice. I'll explain this in another lesson, probably tomorrow, in other to keep this lesson brief as possible.

Falsetto vs Head Voice — What’s the Difference?

Falsetto and head voice are often confused because they live side by side.

Think of them as neighbors:

👉🏽Falsetto is lighter, airier, less vocal fold closure.

👉🏽Head voice is fuller, stronger, more connected closure.

They may sound similar in some singers, but they are not the same.
Head voice keeps more connection.
Falsetto lets go more.

Both are real. Both are valid. Both are part of your voice.✍🏽️

Should You Use Falsetto While Singing?

Yes — absolutely..!🥰
There is nothing wrong with singing in falsetto when you know what you're doing.

Falsetto can be used for:

👉🏽stylistic choices
👉🏽emotional expression
👉🏽smooth transitions
👉🏽soft high notes
👉🏽R&B flips
👉🏽background vocals
👉🏽choir work
👉🏽contemporary music styling
👉🏽etc

Whether you use it depends on:

👉🏽the song’s message

👉🏽the genre

👉🏽the emotion you want to deliver

👉🏽the story you’re interpreting

👉🏽Etc

Falsetto is not a weakness.
It’s a tool — and great singers know how and when to use it.

Don’t limit your voice.
Don’t fear falsetto.
And don’t think it's “not real.”

Your voice has multiple gears, and falsetto is one of them. Master them all, and you become more expressive, more dynamic, and more professional.

OK... Hope this is clear enough.. ☺️
🥱💤 have a lovely weekend singers ..!

HAPPY SINGING❤️
