While I would love for everyone to learn sign language, don't allow a degeneration of your hearing to be the motivating factor. Of course, if you have hearing loss learning to communicate in sign language would be a wise investment.
Routine hearing tests could determine gradual changes in your hearing that you may not have noticed. According to Hoffmann Audiology, "hearing loss is linked to heart conditions, cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and other chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. Regular hearing screenings can show warning signs of these medical conditions and help you get the required care sooner."
Visit Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Hearing Impaired (TTHAI) this Friday and Saturday to benefit from free hearing screenings in commemoration of World Hearing Health Day (see flyer).
Take a glance into one of our sign language classes through the eyes of a student. Vocabulary and grammar are taught in the context of everyday conversations. Observe a native Deaf signer demonstrate vocabulary. Tell me, what 2 signs did you just learn?
