Last month before New Years, we were super busy bees!
Attended IC24 at Western Sydney University.
Attended PMUB postdoctoral meeting.
Recorded VDO to promote the department & lab.
Christmas dinner at home last night.

This publication is from Chantalaksana Chantarangkul's MSc thesis and our first paper concerning Mn(III) single-molecule magnets. These are to date the best performing Mn(III) SMMs yet reported, with initial results from Apinya Meen.
The work has support from our good friends at the University of Bordeaux and the University of Barcelona. ACS Inorganic Chemistry is a leading journal in our field and also a Nature Index journal, so we are really happy that this paper found it's home here.
I should also say that the paper is Open Access thanks to กระทรวงการอุดมศึกษา วิทยาศาสตร์ วิจัยและนวัตกรรม with the work funded by PMU-B บพค.

Here's a new paper from the group, this time exploring how the anion impacts magnetic behaviour in these compounds. It turns out that bromide has just the right complementarity with the lattice to give spin crossover at room temperature.

This paper was interrupted by Covid and relocations to new universities by us and our collaborator, now at AUT in NZ.
The work began life as a senior project by Piw Peeranuch, with polish and repeat studies done by Theerapoom Boonprab.
The paper demonstrates that not only can we make iron(III) spin crossover complexes with long alkyl chains but these self-assemble into thin films. Being a bit of a structural geek I was really pleased to see how the complexes pack into interdigitated layers.
While we were unable to definitively say whether spin crossover occurs in the films, this seems likely and we are actively pursuing other substrates and hope to report these soon.
