One of the many ‘Out buildings’ at The Black House in Chiang Rai (or Black Temple as some call it) is the life’s work of Thai artist Thawan Duchanee. It is more that just a single house, there are over 40 separate buildings here, all filled with curiosities of the world. It certainly takes some figuring out, and there is probably no good conclusion you will reach! One thing’s for certain, it’s a unique and unmissable sight.

The clock tower in Chiang Rai stands out during the day with is vibrant gold colour and entertains at a whole new level each evening as there is a light projection show which occurs at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm each evening. The glorious array of laser lights and accompanying sounds in the background of whizzing motorbikes, speeding tuk tuks and cars is a must-experience.

Chiang Rai compared to its sister town Chiang Mai, has a more relaxed and down-to-earth feel but is never short on historical and cultural attractions of its own. Founded in 1262 as the capital of the Mengrai Dynasty, after Chiang Saen, today the city retains a strong Lanna identity, mostly through its impressive collection of temples, art, language, cuisine and music - And stunning views!
