Let's welcome 2024 in style!
Eat Me kitchen team exploring the fresh markets of Mae Sai.
Autum knife fish aka sanma arriving fresh from toyusu market is in season now charred on our grill served with saffron and smoked dry chilli
The Khaeng Khiao-Whan cocktail (Green Curry) is one of our favourite EAT ME cocktails Pop Direkrittikul will be mixing tonight at our The Bombay Canteen takeover.
One for Thai food lovers, like a lot of Pop's most creative cocktails, it's inspired by the traditional Central Thai curry.
Pop has, er, shaken up our classic EAT ME cocktail with the addition of Stranger & Sons Indian gin, which he combines with coconut milk, his own secret green curry syrup, fresh lime juice, and fish sauce (it’s subtle, trust me.)
It's served in a bowl (of course) and garnished with fresh kaffir lime, so you get a seductive whiff of that distinctive citrus fragrance, before you take a sip and are transported to Thailand's tropical palm-lined beaches - or the bustling streets of exciting Bangkok.
If you haven't been to EAT ME, our drinks and food are as important as each other and there's a real marriage between the two, with Chef Tim and Pop riffing off each other.
And if you haven't been to EAT ME, do drop by and say hi to us tonight at The Bombay Canteen and you must come visit us in Bangkok.
Namaste again. We’re in Mumbai supporting our bar takeover of The Bombay Canteen tonight by our star bartender Pop Direkrittikul but nothing inspires a mixologist, chef or restaurateur like travel.
Pop and I will both be exploring Mumbai today. Pop will be out and about with the The Bombay Canteen crew tucking into thali, strolling Kalbadevi and getting a taste of the city’s old Bombay cafés and new style sipping spots before he heads to the bar to prep for tonight. I’m going to squeeze in some shopping in between sights. So keep your eye on our Stories.
Back in Bangkok, EAT ME is undergoing a transformation courtesy of artist Mitree Parahom who has been enlivening our restaurant walls with murals or rural Isaan scenes. We’ll tell you a lot more about that very soon.
Restaurant manager Polo Sumay and the team have been documenting the process and Polo will share some of their cool time-lapse videos in Stories, including the take-down of the restaurant art collection, which was carefully packed away for storage.
I’m a big mural lover. Yesterday we lunched at legendary Mumbai spot Cafe Mondegar, opened in 1932, where the walls are covered with murals by beloved Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda. It’s the best welcome to old Mumbai.
Catch ya later. Darren Hausler out.
Our man Pop is in Bombay and is already out surveying the bar scene Pop Direkrittikul It’s our legendary mixologist’s first time in India – and his first time embarking on a cocktail collab with The Bombay Canteen team – and he’s excited. I’m excited.
While Pop is feasting on fresh seafood at Bandra and getting a taste of Mumbai’s coolest sipping spots with his congenial hosts, I thought I’d give you a sample of what Pop will be shaking and stirring at our pop-up tomorrow night.
If you’re in Mumbai or you can hop on a flight and get to Bombay Canteen by 8pm Saturday, you’ll get to savour four of Pop’s heady beverages – three classic EAT ME cocktails inspired by Thailand’s culinary specialties (I’ll tell you more about those tomorrow) and a new creation that Pop concocted for our bar takeover at Bombay Canteen.
Pop was busy all week at EAT ME prepping ingredients for the Mumbai trip, from Thai herbs for our iconic Laab cocktail to aromatic Indian spices for his new Masala creation, Pop’s ode to the intoxicating cuisine of India.
Zingy, refreshing and fragrant, Pop’s Masala is a bright blend of Stranger & Sons gin, soda water and Pop’s special secret sparkling Masala cordial, served in a highball glass, and garnished with fresh lemon slices. It’s a soothing, cooling cocktail Pop created for Mumbai’s sultry monsoon – which left me delightfully sodden in ankle-deep water today (any excuse to buy new shoes), but I’ll tell you more about that tomorrow.
Catch ya later. Darren Hausler signing off.
Namaste. Arrived in Mumbai on Thursday. I snapped this image of Ganesha yesterday, which couldn’t be more fortuitous. The Lord of new beginnings, God of safe travels, Ganesha is beloved for removing obstacles in everyday life and clearing a path to the Gods.
Well I’ve arrived in Mumbai ahead of EAT ME’s master mixologist, Pop Pop Direkrittikul — our god-like creator of potent libations for worshippers of spirits of the liquid kind. I’m here to roll out the magic carpet for Pop who is flying in this evening for a bar takeover tonight, Saturday 9th September at 8pm, at one of our favourite Mumbai spots The Bombay Canteen sponsored by Stranger & Sons makers of India’s finest gins. I’ll tell you more about the cocktails our Pop will be concocting in the next posts.
Ganesha is also revered as a patron of the arts, and EAT ME RESTAURANT has been a home to artists since its start. Right now, something exciting is underway back at the Bangkok restaurant, which I’ll tell you about very soon. Time to eat!

Playing with new products in anticipation of reopening this October
OPEN AGAIN IN OCTOBER
Greetings from the Eat Me team,
We've been busy following the ups and downs of the government’s proposed restrictions, retracted restrictions, then updated again, then proposed pie in the sky bubble-boy half baked ideas... cue the circus music....
We feel the twisted spot we've currently landed on including an 8pm closure with no booze and God knows what else lies behind door number 2, it doesn't feel quite right for a reopening just yet. We impatiently await the day when we can provide a fun, safe and enjoyable environment for all of you. Stay safe and see you soon!
Dear friends and family,
Upon evaluation of the current covid situation, and in light of the updated dining restrictions for Bangkok we will remain closed to dine in operations. Having to make this call deeply saddens us, our concern for the saftey and well being of our dearest guests and staff must take priority. On a positive note this extra time allows us work on new dishes, drinks and overdue maintenance. We truly wish all of you nothing but the best health in these trying times. We eagerly await feeding and drinking with you again, hope to see you all in June.
Yours truly,
Eat me team
Greetings to all our friends and family around the globe, in accordance with the Thai government’s recent announcement we will be closing for in house dining as of today May the 1st until further notice. We will see you all again once this new wave of outbreaks subsides. Until that time comes please stay home and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Eat me team
