A story from a technician’s point of view
Last week, while out sourcing screens, I witnessed something that really bothered me.
A client walked in looking for a Samsung S22 original screen. The dealer quoted E3,000.
After negotiating, the price dropped slightly and the client agreed.
Then came the next question:
“Do you have a technician who can fix it?”
The answer was no.
He was advised to first find a technician before paying for the screen.
A few minutes later, he came back with a young technician. He showed him the Samsung S22 and asked how much the repair would cost.
The technician said E700.
Immediately, the client complained it was too much.
He pushed for E300.
After some back and forth, the technician asked for E500.
The client still refused and insisted on E400, saying “ngisize” (help me).
In the end… the technician agreed.
Then came the part that really disturbed me.
The client said:
👉 “Look at how much I’m paying for this screen. If you damage it, don’t apologise — you’ll refund me fully.”
And still, the technician accepted.
I stood there shocked.
Someone can comfortably spend E3,000 on a screen, but aggressively bargain over E500 for the skill, experience, risk, tools, and responsibility required to install it properly.
If something went wrong, who would carry the loss?
Would the technician be blamed for “spoiling” a screen worth thousands while being paid crumbs?
📌 Technicians are not beggars.
📌 Skill is not cheap.
📌 Experience is not free.
You don’t pay for just fitting a screen — you pay for: • Years of learning
• Risk taken
• Accountability
• Precision
• Knowledge
• Responsibility
Stop expecting perfection at the cheapest price.
If you value your phone, you must also value the person fixing it.
One day, technicians will be respected the way they deserve — not just for their tools, but for their minds and hands.
Until then, some of us will keep standing firm.
💬 Respect the craft. Value the skill. Pay fairly.
