According to reports.
The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) on Wednesday resorted to urgently summon Central Equatoria State governor, Augustino Jadallah Wani, Minister of Water Resources and irrigation, plus the mayor of Juba City council over the increasing water prices in the capital Juba.
Khald Abdallah Adam, an MP representing Western Bahr el Ghazal’s Raja County in the TNLA, said the cost of water has become a real problem to the citizens with prices in some residential areas such as Gudele and Gurei going as high as 6,000 to 7,000 SSP per barrel.
Adam called on the parliament to look into this issue and ensure regulating authorities are summoned to explain why water prices are increasing, despite most stations selling water at affordable prices.
“My information is about the issue of water. Currently honorable speaker, according to the information I got, a barrel of water has reached SSP 6000. How can we save our citizens considering the economic crisis and lack of salaries for civil servants, how are the citizens going to manage honorable speaker?” he questioned.
