IGP SELLU ADMONISHES POLICE RECRUITS AT SAMU

On Thursday, 14 May 2026, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, visited Samu in Kambia District, where he addressed police recruits currently undergoing training at the Advanced Public Order Training School (APOTS) of the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy.

Addressing the recruits, the IGP emphasised discipline as the bedrock of every institution, noting that it shapes individuals by teaching them what to do and how to do it. He reminded the recruits that policing is not a part-time job, but a professional career that requires commitment, sacrifice, and dedication.

He described the police profession as highly demanding, stating that the recruits had left their comfort zones to undergo rigorous training in preparation for national service. The IGP urged them to take every aspect of the training seriously, as it could shape their future and transform them into responsible citizens and professional police officers.

Reflecting on the recruitment process, Mr Sellu disclosed that over 15,000 applicants had applied to join the Sierra Leone Police, but only a limited number were successful. He therefore encouraged the recruits to consider themselves fortunate and remain focused in order to successfully complete the training programme.

The IGP further informed the recruits that they had already been introduced to the code of conduct governing the training camp, stressing that strict sanctions are in place for violations. He added that, upon completion of the training, they would also be taught the 47 Rules, which have now been reviewed to align with contemporary policing standards.

Mr Sellu encouraged the trainers and instructors to continue giving their best, describing Samu as a breeding ground for producing disciplined, professional, and competent police personnel capable of meeting international policing standards.

Speaking on drug abuse and the use of illegal substances, the IGP declared a zero-tolerance policy, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full force of the law. He also disclosed plans to conduct unannounced drug tests within the training camp.

The IGP urged the recruits to make themselves responsible and relevant, reminding them that policing is a demanding profession, particularly as officers are trained to handle fi****ms and protect lives and property.

During the visit, Mr Sellu toured the facilities at the training academy and expressed plans to upgrade available resources and improve existing facilities in order to enhance effective training and operational efficiency.

I ceased doing too many live sessions, but I’ll be back soon. I just bought a brand new VenusLiv V2, but unfortunately, I didn’t know the camera doesn’t come with a battery. I should have ordered it together with the camera.

Anyone with an NP-F970, NP-F750, or NP-F550 battery for sale, please let me know.

People who bleach their skin rarely seem to have stable relationships. The sad part is that very few people genuinely appreciate bleached skin. Personal observation.

A month after the 2023 elections, I quietly stepped away from everything relating to politics. I think only a few members of my family knew about my decision. Let me explain this clearly because people can easily misunderstand messages like this.

I decided never to be actively involved in politics again. I could still remain a supporter of the SLPP, but I no longer wanted to participate in political arguments, attend meetings or rallies, or involve myself in day-to-day political activities.

Virtually, there are over 3 million Sierra Leoneans who support the SLPP, but less than 100 thousand are actively involved in politics and party matters. I wanted to be among the majority who simply support and vote for the SLPP without engaging in active politics.

The reason behind my decision was simple. I may be wrong, but I strongly believed that politics could stop me from becoming the person I truly want to be in life, especially coming from a financially poor background. If you are poor and want to survive in politics, many people believe the only way is to compromise your integrity, allow yourself to be controlled foolishly, become a shield for powerful politicians, and engage in things that go against your values.

I can never compromise my morality or credibility. Since I was unwilling to involve myself in such things, I felt I would only continue wasting my time in politics while people wrongly assumed I was benefiting like others.

So why did I return to politics?

Dr. David Moinina Sengeh’s involvement in active politics gave me hope to return.

Some people around him noticed that I had stopped speaking about governance and politics, and they informed him because I was once considered one of the strongest voices defending the government and the SLPP.

Dr. Sengeh reached out and engaged me. During our meeting, the only thing he asked of me was to help disseminate the work of his Boss, the President of Sierra Leone. That is completely different from what some people think. Contrary to the assumptions out there, Dr. Sengeh never called me onboard to promote any personal political ambition. He is not like some politicians who only engage influential media voices for personal promotion.

So, if you see me today supporting Dr. Sengeh to eventually succeed his Boss, it is not because he instructed me to do so. It is because I genuinely believe he can uphold the strong foundation laid by President Julius Maada Bio and continue to deliver selflessly for Sierra Leone.

Another reason is this: Dr. Sengeh is absolutely corruption-free. I believe this is partly because he entered politics already as a successful young man with global recognition and connections. Honestly, if I had achieved the level of success and international exposure he had before entering politics, I probably would never have joined Sierra Leonean politics.

There are many positive qualities I can mention about Dr. Sengeh and why his presence inspired me to return to political engagement.

So, what am I really trying to say?

I have never had luck in politics, and I do not benefit financially from politics. In fact, I often spend my own money defending my political beliefs and principles.

If you see me today speaking about politics or actively engaging in political discussions, it is simply because Dr. Sengeh is currently at the forefront of active politics. If he were not involved, my direct involvement in politics would already be over.
