ALL-TIME FAVORITE ARTISTS IN SIERRA LEONE đ¤đ
When Freetown residents were asked to name their all-time favorite Sierra Leonean artist, the results revealed more than just popular names, they revealed influence across generations, communities, and cultures.
While LAJ continues to dominate, the deeper story lies in who is listening to who. From Emmersonâs lasting Millennial influence to Famousâ strong cross-generational and female appeal, the data shows how music preferences shift across age, gender, and city zones. Icons like Kao Denero, K Man, and Steady Bongo also continue to hold strong cultural relevance across the city.
But perhaps the most thought-provoking insight is this: nearly 3 in 10 residents either donât listen to Salone music or have no all-time favorite artist at all, with disengagement highest among older generations and women. That represents a major audience the industry is still struggling to fully connect with.
This is Freetownâs music scene in 2026, through the lens of real people, real communities, and real data.

WHOâS LISTENING TO WHO?
Beyond identifying Freetownâs current favorite artists, the OneField â Citizens Lens data also reveals who the fans are and who is driving the culture across generations, gender, and different parts of the city.
From Gen Zâs strong connection to Drizilik, to LAJâs wide cross-city appeal and Famousâ impressive female fan base, the findings highlight how music preferences differ across demographics and communities.
The data also reveals an interesting gap: nearly a third of respondents either donât listen to Salone music or currently have no favorite artist, with disengagement highest among women and older generations.
Hereâs a closer look at the fans behind the music. Which artist do you think truly connects across every generation in Salone right now and why? đđž

WHO IS THE KING OF FREETOWN RIGHT NOW?
The first release from our OneField â Citizens Lens data is here, and weâre starting with entertainment.
We asked residents across Freetown:
âWho is your favorite artist in Sierra Leone right now?â
LAJ emerges as Freetownâs most popular artist right now, with 11.4% of respondents naming the controversial singer and rapper as their favorite.
The survey also revealed the cityâs diverse musical tastes, with veteran acts like Steady Bongo, K Man, and Emmerson receiving strong recognition alongside newer hitmakers such as Legacy Boi of âThe Money Necessaryâ fame.
But the story doesnât end at the top.
While dozens of artists (newer names, veteran acts, and names youâd probably argue about at a cookout) got a mention, almost a third of Freetownians either donât listen to âSalone Musicâ or have no favorite artist right now.
Hereâs what the people said. đ

The media landscape is becoming increasingly unpredictable!
This weekâs rankings mark a clear shift in momentum after what had been a relatively stable and predictable run over the past eight weeks.
Truth Media reclaims the top spot for the first time in nine weeks, leading with a Net Engagement Score of 412 and +2K new followers, signaling a strong resurgence in audience engagement.
Afri Radio SL follows in second place with a Net Engagement Score of 286 and +483 followers, maintaining steady traction across its audience base.
Epic Radio ranks third with a Net Engagement Score of 195 and +138 followers, continuing to hold relevance within the competitive landscape.
Notably, two previously consistent top performers. (Sierra Network and Liberty TV) have shifted out of the top positions, with the former, a long-standing leader in the rankings dropping from the top three for the second time in nine weeks.
This shows a renewed level of competition and a more dynamic engagement environment across digital media platforms.
Overall, the rankings reflect a landscape that is becoming less and less predictable, where audience engagement patterns are increasingly fluid.
The audience knows what theyâre looking and it looks like it keeps changing from week to week.
This weekâs media rankings witnessed a major shift in momentum, marking one of the most unusual changes in the rankings so far.
Liberty Online TV for the very first time in the rankings takes the lead with a Net Engagement Score of 332 and +1.6K new followers, climbing to the top spot after weeks of intense competition.
Truth Media follows closely in second place with a Net Engagement Score of 328 and +2K new followers, continuing its strong audience growth and digital presence.
Epic Radio ranks third this week with a Net Engagement Score of 195 and +770 new followers, securing a spot among the top-performing platforms.
In a surprising turn, Sierra Network Salone which had dominated the rankings for eight consecutive weeks did not make the top three for the first time since the rankings began.
This weekâs results are a reminder that the digital media landscape remains highly competitive, where momentum can shift quickly and audience engagement continues to define visibility.
A QUIET WEEK, OVERALL!
This weekâs rankings captures a noticeable slowdown in engagement across most platforms, with overall audience interaction appearing lower than previous weeks.
Despite the softer engagement climate, a few platforms continued to maintain visibility through consistent content delivery and audience connection.
Sierra Network Salone continues to maintain dominance at the top with a Net Engagement Score of 625 and +1.9K new followers, sustaining its lead through continued audience retention and platform activity.
Truth Media follows in second place with a Net Engagement Score of 293 and +2K new followers, maintaining strong audience growth despite a decline in overall engagement performance this week.
Liberty TV Online ranks third with a Net Engagement Score of 171 and +1.1K new followers, continuing to hold its place among the countryâs most visible digital media platforms.
While engagement numbers dipped across the board this week, the rankings continue to highlight the importance of consistency, audience loyalty, and sustained digital presence in Sierra Leoneâs evolving media landscape.
