​FREETOWN — Prominent Sierra Leonean lawyer and former Bar Association President, Basita Michael, has publicly questioned what she describes as "international double standards" following the abrupt cancellation of First Lady Fatima Jabbe-Bio’s speaking invitation at a high-profile international event.
​The controversy erupted after the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) rescinded the First Lady’s invitation to speak on female empowerment at a Cambridge University college. The cancellation followed intense pressure and criticism from UK-based women's rights campaigners and anti-FGM activists who pointed to her past statements regarding traditional practices and the Bondo society.

SIERRA LEONE ARTIST UNION 2026 INAUGURATION

The Sierra Leone Artist Union (SLAU) in The Gambia proudly announces the inauguration of its newly elected President, YOM G.

This landmark event marks a new chapter for artists, entertainers, managers, social clubs, and music lovers as the union continues to promote unity, creativity, and excellence within the entertainment industry.

The inauguration is scheduled to take place on 14 June 2026 at Besco Garden starting at 4:00 PM.

The event will bring together key stakeholders from the creative sector to celebrate leadership, collaboration, and the future growth of Sierra Leonean artists.

Under the theme "Together We Unite, Together We Rise, Together We Shine," the occasion aims to strengthen relationships within the entertainment community and inspire a shared vision for progress and success.

All managers, social clubs, entertainers, and music lovers are cordially invited to be part of this historic celebration and show their support for President YOM G and the Sierra Leone Artist Union.
