My project Zed Icons was awarded the Tatra Banka Foundation Award for Art in the Design category!

I would like to thank Tatra banka, the Foundation, the CNTBU team, the jury, and everyone who nominated my project. Thank you to Peter Bilak and Rafał Buchner, Jaro Kondela, Ľuboš Odráška and the entire Typotheque team, as well as all the early users who helped expand and improve the project.

Zed Icons is a digital typeface — a set of 2,000 icons. Stylistically, it draws on American DOT pictograms and the pictograms of the international ISO 7001 standard. The project develops and extends them for the needs of the 21st century, with the aim of increasing inclusivity and flexibility of use. Each icon was designed in eight variants as a variable font, which allows its weight, optical size, and rounding to be dynamically adjusted for different contexts. Zed Icons was published by the Dutch type foundry Typotheque as part of the larger Zed type family.

🧁 NEW WORK: The redesigned Lina by Sedita has been on store shelves for some time now, so you’ve probably seen it already if you’re in SK/CZ area. Here’s a look behind the scenes of the collaboration between Pergamen Design Studio and Setup Type on its new visual identity.

Although the name Lina consists of only four letters, the path to its final form was more complex than it might seem. We explored three initial concepts, two of which were further developed through four rounds of iterations each. The biggest challenge was finding the right structure and proportions for the capital L, since in handwritten form it closely resembles the letters S and Z. In the end, we chose the simplest construction variant and detached the lowercase letters, making the final wordmark clean and compact, yet still expressive and engaging, without compromising legibility.

The brand is supported by the new packaging designed by Pergamen Design Studio, featuring a dominant blue and a unique accent color with a distinct illustration for each flavor.

🎼 NEW WORK: Duchoň. Title design for a biographical film about legendary Slovak singer Karol Duchoň (1950–1985). Directed by Peter Bebjak and produced by DNA Production.

The typography is rooted in visual culture and expressive constructed typography and lettering of 1970s Czechoslovakia. The custom font also nods to music directly: the letters incorporate the five lines of a musical staff.

I’m very honoured to have played a part in telling Duchoň’s story through typography. 🙏

🏆 Zed Icons, my work for Typotheque, has been awarded the TDC Certificate for Typographic Excellence at the !

Zed Icons offers a collection of two thousand icons designed to transcend language barriers, providing clarity in situations where words or translations fall short. These icons are available in a variable range of weights, optical sizes, and visual styles, seamlessly aligning with the proportions of the user’s chosen typeface for a cohesive visual experience.
