Moments like this remind us just how special our beaches are. They make for crucial coastal habitats, where sea turtles return to nest and continue their cycle of life.

We're entering the whale shark season and have already had several exciting sightings across our parks! As more of these gentle giants arrive in our waters, we're urging everyone — boat operators and visitors alike — to act responsibly and help keep every encounter safe.

🚤 Boats: Slow down and keep a safe distance of 30 metres. Cut your engine once you're within that range.

🤿 In the water: Stay at least 2 metres away from the head and 4 metres from the tail. NO flash photography, touching, chasing, or feeding.

🐢 Encountering other megafauna? Turtles, rays, and other marine giants deserve the same care and respect. Keep your distance, move calmly, avoid touching or chasing, and let them go about their natural behaviour undisturbed.

Whale sharks are the ocean's largest fish and endangered, which makes safe and respectful encounters essential.
