Promoting French Reading in the Library
Closure of Reading Centres
Library clients are informed that from Friday 24th April, the Reading Centres at Anse Etoile, Roche Caiman and Pointe Larue will be closed on Fridays. This is part of Government measures to address current energy challenges and to reduce electricity and fuel use nationally.
We regret any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your understanding and support.

Book Donation FSA
To mark its 30th anniversary, the Financial Services Authority, FSA donated 70 books to the Seychelles National Library, as part of their "on-going commitment towards education, empowerment and nation building." The books were handed over to the Permanent Secretary of Culture, Ms. Cecile Kalebi, by the CEO of FSA, Mr. Randolf Samson in a brief ceremony at the National Library on the 11 November 2025.
The books are on economics, finance, insurance, capital markets and will prove beneficial to business studies students, entrepreneurs, researchers and other members of the public.

Book Donation, Mr. Julian Luke
On Friday 17th October 2025, the Seychelles National Library received a generous donation of 11 Seychelles-related books from Mr. Julian Luke, a long-time visitor from the UK and a dedicated supporter of Seychelles’ history and culture.
The books, which highlight Seychelles’ history and the shipping routes that connected the islands to the wider world, were officially presented to Ms. Julienne Barra, Director General for Culture. Also present were Principal Librarian Mrs. Anne Mary Robert and members of the National Library team.
We sincerely thank Mr. Luke for his valuable contribution and continued support in helping preserve and promote Seychelles’ rich heritage.

Book Donation Danny Faure Foundation
On August 21, 2025 – The Danny Faure Foundation has donated 18 books to the Seychelles National Library.
These books feature beautifully illustrated versions of two winning short stories from the Voices of the Ocean competition organised by the Foundation:
• “Timmy the Hero” by Hayden Lesperance of Baie Anne Primary School
• “Lavantir Yaya Sa Pti Torti” by Micah Felix of Baie Lazare Primary School
The books were illustrated by talented students of the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design, and printed by Printec Press Holdings. These books carry a powerful message: protect our ocean for future generations.
The books were presented to the library by Mr. Alain de Commarmond, Board Secretary of the Danny Faure Foundation, during a short ceremony held at the National Library.
In addition to being available at the main library in Victoria, the books will also be distributed to the library branches on Praslin and La Digue, as well as the three reading centres on Mahé – Roche Caïman, Pointe Larue, and Anse Etoile.
Each book is also equipped with a QR code giving access to an audio version of the stories, making them inclusive and accessible to visually impaired readers.

Foyer de Nazareth
In-line to descentralizing the service and bringing reading pronotion to the community, the Anse Etoile Reading Centre organised a reading activity at the Foyer de Nazareth on the 11th August. The children really appreciated it.

On Monday, 8th September, the Seychelles National Library proudly received a donation of 30 copies of The Illustrated History of Seychelles from Gran Kaz during a special ceremony at the Children’s Library.

International Literacy Day Activity
On International Literacy Day, 8th September 2025 , the Seychelles National Library proudly hosted its first Spelling Bee Competition for Secondary Students category S1-S3 at the National Theatre, Mont Fleuri.
The event brought together secondary school students from across Seychelles to celebrate the power of literacy, sharpen their language skills, and cultivate a lasting love for learning while fostering personal growth and youth development.

Intergenerational Activitiy - Baie Sainte Anne Library
On Friday, 9th August, the Seychelles National Library hosted an Intergenerational Activity at the Baie St Anne Community Center.
The event brought together the elderly and the youth for a day of connection, creativity, and cultural sharing. Activities included:
