FOREIGN STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO WORK IN RUSSIA FREELY

From 1st January, 2014 amendments to the law “Legal status of foreign citizens in Russian Federation” became effective and establish, that a foreign student with an ordinary study visa can work without completing the formalities for special documents.
The new clause of the law regulates work of foreign students in Russia in a simplified procedure. From 2014, a foreign student studying in full-time tuition in a Russian higher educational institution can independently and officially approach to authorities of Federal Migration Service (FMS) to get a work permit. For this purpose, it is necessary for the student to provide the FMS with the following documents: an application; the Migration Card (received on arrival in Russia); employment contract; reference from the educational institution where the student is studying and also the state duty payment receipt. The quota system concerning such workers does not apply. In addition, it is also not necessary for employers to get a permit for involving a foreign student/labour.
In case of such similar official approach to FMS authorities, the foreign student should receive the work permit for one year in ten working days.
