Road transport is often where problems become visible.

That doesn't mean it is where they started.

Many of the disruptions companies deal with every day can be traced back to decisions made much earlier in the supply chain. By the time a shipment becomes urgent or a delivery requires intervention, the real cause may already be weeks old.

That is why improving logistics performance is not always about finding a better rate or solving the next urgent shipment.

Sometimes, it starts with a different question:
* Where did the problem actually begin?
* Because road transport is rarely the source of disruption.
* More often, it is where the consequences become visible.

Companies spend years negotiating transport rates, but many still struggle with logistics performance. Why? Because transport is often where problems become visible, not where they begin.

Our latest article looks at what road transportation can reveal about planning, inventory and the overall health of a supply chain. An interesting read for Logistics Directors, Procurement leaders and executives looking beyond transport costs. Read the full article below. ⬇️

The next competitive advantage in supply chain will not come from transport rates, but from how fast a company can make clear decisions when conditions change.

In volatile markets, the biggest cost is often not freight itself, but the delay between seeing a problem and deciding what happens next.

The companies that will move better over the next years are not necessarily the ones with more suppliers, warehouses or transport options. They will be the ones where decisions move faster than disruption and where ownership across the flow is clear.

This is where multimodal stops being transport coordination and starts becoming business structure.

Performance is built over time, through discipline, consistency, people who believe in what they do and organizations that choose to support something bigger than an immediate result.

We are proud to support the “Andreea Răducan” Gymnastics Cup and the young generation learning, through sport, what hard work, responsibility and perseverance truly mean.

Congratulations to Andreea Răducan and the entire team for everything you continue to build around performanceand the future of Romanian sport.

In multimodal flows, the real difference doesn’t come from transport itself, but from the way decisions are made when things start to change.

* Who decides what moves next?
* Who sees the entire flow?
* Who actually owns the final outcome?

In many cases, complexity is not created by the lack of options, but by the fact that decisions are split between too many parties.

That’s why, when we look at a multimodal setup, we don’t start with routes, we start with the way the flow is structured and where complexity begins.

We’ve shared below a few of the questions we use to understand the difference between a flow that runs through control and one that runs through constant reactions.

The problem is not transportation.

It’s that the decisions still stay with you.

In multimodal operations, you constantly find yourself deciding: what moves by sea, what needs to be expedited by air, what must be adjusted along the way. Every change becomes one more decision to make.

At first, it feels normal. Over time, it becomes pressure.

Because the flow is no longer truly built. It is being sustained through daily interventions.

That is where the loss of control actually begins.

If you end up being involved in almost every delivery, transport is usually not the real issue.

In many multimodal operations, complexity doesn't come from routes, but from coordination. You have multiple suppliers, shipments leaving from different locations, and decisions that are often more related to production than transport.

Each stage works on its own. But when a change appears, the decision comes back to you. That is where the problem starts.

Not because transportation doesn’t work, but because responsibility is fragmented.

Multimodal is not about combining transport modes, but about who takes ownership of the final outcome.

Multimodal logistics is often seen as a solution for complex supply chains. In reality, the problem is rarely transport, it’s control - this is something we see consistently across CEE.

Some companies use air freight as part of their model, others end up using it under pressure.

From the outside, it looks the same, in reality, it’s not. In one case, it protects the business, in the other, it’s fixing something late.

We see both — and the difference is usually decided much earlier than the shipment itself.

The question is not if you use air — but where it actually changes the outcome. If air freight is a constant in your flows, it’s worth looking at where it actually makes the difference.

We usually start with one shipment. That’s enough to see where things change.

Air freight is not about speed — it’s about control.
We wrote this for companies navigating uncertainty across Europe–Asia flows. If your operations depend on predictability, this might shift how you think about logistics.
