We were delighted to hear from Dr. Ovidiu-Mircea Zlatian, Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, as he shared his experience at the Summer School of Medical Microbiology.
Having attended similar training programmes abroad, he highlighted the high scientific level of the presentations and recommended the course to laboratory physicians, hospital epidemiologists and professionals involved in infection control.

❗️Un cortex uman într-un creier de șoarece. O nouă fereastră către creierul uman
Cum putem studia, în timp real, dezvoltarea și bolile creierului uman atunci când țesutul cerebral viu este atât de dificil de accesat? Un răspuns experimental remarcabil vine de la Stanford University. Într-un studiu publicat la 16 septembrie 2026 în Nature, o echipă condusă de 🇷🇴 Sergiu P. Pașca a transplantat organoizi corticali umani – structuri tridimensionale obținute din celule stem pluripotente – în creierul unor șoareci modificați genetic astfel încât dezvoltarea propriului cortex să fie sever redusă. În aceste condiții, țesutul uman s-a dezvoltat rapid și a ocupat, după trei luni, aproximativ 90 % din volumul cortical măsurat.
Ceea ce face experimentul deosebit este gradul de maturizare și integrare al țesutului uman. Cercetătorii au identificat mai multe tipuri de neuroni caracteristici cortexului uman, inclusiv celule asemănătoare neuronilor von Economo (VEN-like), o populație neuronală rară, asociată unor regiuni implicate în procese cognitive și sociale complexe. Neuronii umani au format conexiuni cu sistemul nervos al șoarecelui, iar studiile anatomice și funcționale au evidențiat activitate neuronală și proiecții către circuite ale gazdei. Modelul permite astfel observarea dezvoltării și funcționării țesutului cortical uman într-un organism viu, la o rezoluție experimentală dificil de obținut prin modelele convenționale.
Miza cercetării depășește experimentul în sine. Celulele din care sunt creați organoizii pot proveni de la pacienți și pot păstra particularitățile lor genetice. În perspectivă, acest tip de model poate permite cercetătorilor să urmărească cm apar anumite modificări ale circuitelor neuronale, cm se maturizează celulele afectate de o boală și cm răspund acestea la potențiale tratamente. ✔️ Pentru neuroștiință, este o direcție de cercetare cu implicații pentru tulburările de neurodezvoltare și pentru numeroase boli neurologice și neuropsihiatrice. ❗️Este important însă ca promisiunea terapeutică să fie formulată corect: studiul creează un instrument experimental puternic. El nu reprezintă, de unul singur, un tratament disponibil pacienților.
Sergiu P. Pașca, medic format la Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie “Iuliu Hațieganu” din Cluj-Napoca, este profesor de psihiatrie și științe comportamentale la Stanford și conduce Stanford Brain Organogenesis Program. Cercetarea sa urmărește de mai bine de un deceniu dezvoltarea unor modele experimentale ale creierului uman pornind de la celule stem, de la organoizi și assembloizi până la integrarea țesutului neural uman în organisme vii. Parcursul său – de la formarea medicală în România la cercetarea de frontieră desfășurată la Stanford – este relevant prin ceea ce a produs științific, prin metode și rezultate care contribuie la schimbarea modului în care poate fi studiat creierul uman.
Experimentul deschide, în același timp, o discuție importantă despre limitele cercetării. Pe măsură ce țesutul uman devine mai complex și se integrează mai profund în sistemul nervos al unui animal, apar întrebări care trebuie evaluate din timp, riguros și interdisciplinar. Pentru moment, valoarea principală a modelului este una științifică: oferă o nouă platformă pentru investigarea dezvoltării cortexului uman și a mecanismelor bolilor creierului. 🎓 A new chapter begins.
Today, we celebrate a truly special moment for the graduates of the General Nursing program at “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara.
After years of dedication, hard work, exams, clinical practice, and countless hours of learning, our graduates have reached an important milestone in their professional journey.
🩺 More than the knowledge and skills they have gained, they leave university with the values that define the nursing profession: compassion, responsibility, empathy, and dedication to patient care.
Today’s graduation ceremony marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another — one filled with new challenges, opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
