There was a nice story our founder Radu Ticiu told us after his first IGEM participation in 2023. During the first day of the event, a group of Canadian students from the McGill University team, seeing “Romania” written on his judge badge approached him saying that their team’s leaders and its PI are of Romanian origin.
In the final day of the event, the whole iGEM universe knew that the McGill team is the bag winner of the competition and Radu knew that Codruța Ignea, Primary Principal Investigator of the team, even more than being from Romania, is right from our city, Timișoara!
Now we are proud to invite all those interested in bioengineering, synthetic biology, bioeconomy and the iGEM Competition to meet in Timisoara and interact with dr. Codruța Ignea, Wed, June 3rd, at 12:00, in an event co-organized by Universitatea de Științele Vieții “Regele Mihai I” din Timișoara, Fundatia Excelsior Alumni USVT, Institutul de Biotehnologia Plantelor Timișoara, -Center for Nonformal Education and Creative Entrepreneurship and BioCoderDojo Timisoara.
Details and registration in the Luma event in the first comment.

BioCoderDojo Timisoara and the network of CoderDojo Timișoara implementations joins forces with GreenTwin, Grădinescu Timişoara - GreenFeel, in organising and running Bee Green an urban science camp focused on the natural life around gardens and bee hives, open to kids in primary and middle schools.
Encourage kids around you to join a dynamic and potentially deeply formative event!
The project is supported by the Științescu Timișoara program of the Fundaţia Comunitară Timişoara!
Bee Green — atelier de idei și invenții pentru natură Bee Green este un atelier pentru copii dedicat polenizatorilor, naturii și invențiilor practice la GreenFeel, Timișoara. Organizat de GreenTwin.

Fantastic week for BioCoderDojo Timișoara with two of the youngest ninjas, Sophia Irina Harcău and Casian Veselin, concluding their awesome Global Committed Listener participation to the How To Grow (Almost) Anything program by MIT Media Lab, by presenting their final projects on PLNC8ß anti-Helicobacter pylori and Zea anti-pest, respectively.
Additionaly, their mentors, Todinca, Iulia Nicoras, Letiția Iliescu, Erik Boros, Gabriel Tăbăcaru, and Radu Ticiu will join the BFH European Meet-Up
event, reuniting in Hamburg representatives of almost 30 synthetic biology IGEM teams from 9 countries, with a first participation of a Romanian team to an iGEM Competition pre-event!
Congrats all for your dedicated work!
Thanks, Georg Tremmel and BioClub Tokyo team and peers for guiding and motivating Sophia, Casian and their colleagues Mia Dărăbuș and Andrei Vasilan during the demanding HTGAA.org program!
Additionaly, our alumnus Mihai Fracea was selected to attend as a Leader of Tomorrow the Excellentium Conference by Global Biotech Revolution!
BioCoderDojo Timișoara is growing on passion for science and hard work!

Val Muresan supports as a Timotion champion our crowdfunding campaign aiming to attract community support for the BioCoderDojo Timisoara education activities in the fields at the convergence of life science and technology, dedicated to middle and high school studens in Timisoara, Lugoj, Arad and Deva!

ROSPIN's FAST EXPO event in Timișoara was awesome!
We were more than excited to be there!
The event day sure was exhausting, but nothing short of entertaining. Many people stopped by our stand, curious not only about BioCoderDojo Timisoara but also about what we do: bringing synthetic biology closer to the community, from elementary high-school students to people of all ages interested in the future, representatives of Primăria Municipiului Timișoara included. 🧬
We had the chance to share insights on our work and activity, as well as highlight key opportunities in the world of prescriptive biology: IGEM, the How To Grow (Almost) Anything MIT Media Lab course, and many more!
The interactions within the event ranged from hands-on experiments and micropipette usage techniques to quick introductions to genetic engineering and how to get started in the field.
🎉 Huge shout outs to the organizers, the Timișoara chapter of ROSPIN-Romanian Space Initiative for making this great event happen!
A big thank you to our members who kept the energy high, engaged the public, and supported one another throughout the day-just as a team should!
It was also great to share the stand with our colleagues from the CoderDojo Timișoara network: the cybersec and robotics clubs!

⏳ Tic-tac.

We always love to put Timișoara on various maps!
This one is the map and the list of IGEM teams that will gather in May in Hamburg for the BFH European Meetup!
Our high school ninjas started to prepare their participation to this year's iGEM Competition and their enthusiasm also ignited their mentors', students in various Timișoara universities (but most comming from Victor Babeş University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timişoara), decission to also build an undergraduate team to compete this November in Paris! The project they will talk about with 28 other teams, aims to reduce the carcinogenetic effects of pickles (significantly high in certain geographies, especially in Asia) by reducing the nitrosamines level resulting throughout the fermentation processes.

Using the opportunities offered by all sorts of global awareness days is a good way to also build awareness for synthetic biology!
Yesterday was the Earth's Day and we've been talking with middle and high school students from Liceul Teoretic "Grigore Moisil" Timișoara about synthetic biology approaches that are developed to tackle the effects of the climate changes, from developing drought resistant crops to carbon sequestration methods, from sustainable materials to new biofuels.
Our ninjas Sophia Irina Harcău, Patricia Gogea, Andrei Trifa and Casian Veselin build and delivered an engaging slide show, several kahoots and also discussed with about 150 of their colleagues about how they are exploring the field of synthetic biology through so many diverse approaches: being ninas at BioCoderDojo Timisoara, building an IGEM team and also learning within the MIT Media Lab program How To Grow (Almost) Anything htgaa.org .

We've been invited to a meeting of the Timișoara robotics teams with the vice-mayor of the city, Ruben Lațcău!
Great to see that kids like ours ninjas Sophia Irina, Casian Veselin, Andrei Trifa and their a little older mentors (represented here by Rusu Emanuel are enthusiastically accepting the challenge to play an active role in building of a collaborative platform for youth involvement in the future development of the city Timișoara, based on science, technology and entrepreneurship!
Also super-cool to talk about the higher and higher importance of robotics, automation and AI in accelerating the impact of synthetic biology and biotech in solving the most important problems of the humankind!
