The National Philatelic Museum is a cultural institution having the mission to promote the knowledge and understanding of the entire world, by studying stamps, letters or other communication means by postal office. ational History Museum. The building conceived in neo-classic style was built according to the architect Al. The central postal office of the town operated here until 1970, when there were started the works of building renovation and museum furnishing. The National Philatelic Museum extends over 600 sq and allows to those passionate by philately and postal objects, by its three exhibition halls, to admire a part of the Romanian Postal Office’s treasury. Muzeul Naţional Filatelic este o instituţie culturală a cărei misiune este de a promova cunoşterea şi înţelegerea lumii întregi, prin studierea timbrelor, a scrisorilor sau a altor mijloace de comunicare prin poştă. Din punct de vedere etimologic, termenul "filatelie" datează din anul 1864, provenind din contopirea lui "philos" cu "atelia". Rezultatul a fost acest cuvântul „filatelie” având semnificaţia "dragostea de lucruri libere de taxe". Muzeul are sediul în imobilul proprietate publică a statului, aflat în administrarea Muzeului Naţional de Istorie a României. Clădirea concepută în stil neoclasic este realizată după planurile arh. Săvulescu. Poşta centrală a oraşului a funcţionat aici până în anul 1970, când au început lucrările de renovare a clădirii şi de amenajare a muzeului. Muzeul Naţional Filatelic ocupă peste 600 mp şi permite în cele trei săli de expunere celor pasionaţi de filatelie şi obiecte poştale să admire o parte din tezaurul Poştei Române.
