The attitudes of young people, families, educators and policymakers can have a profound influence on whether languages are maintained and passed on.

To celebrate the European Day of Languages 2026, ICC is bringing this important question into focus in a special webinar:

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

Professor Antonella Sorace of The University of Edinburgh will draw on research into heritage languages in migration contexts and indigenous languages to examine the relationship between language attitudes and intergenerational transmission.

She will also introduce the work of Bilingualism Matters and show how research can help families, teachers and policymakers make informed decisions about bilingualism and multilingualism.

It was a privilege to take part in the International Symposium on professional experiences in teaching Romanian as a foreign language.
