Interesting fact about Portugal
Did you know that Japanese tempura is actually a Portuguese innovation!
Wait, WHAT?
That’s right! One of Japan’s most well known dishes is tempura. The dish, which is battered, deep fried vegetables and seafood, was actually invented by Portuguese traders and missionaries living in Nagasaki. Tempura, being tasty as you know it can be, has ultimately spread across Japan during the 16th century, and now is considered a Japanese dish

Funny or not, but do not underestimate the Portuguese

Have a lovely Friday and tasty “tempura”.

Thank you for a fantastic shot to

After a long break of celebrations, everyone seems to be slowly getting back to their routines
And today, after taking a little break ourselves, we decided to explain the difference between the two synonyms, “festejar” & “celebrar”
As you have guessed, both mean “to celebrate”. Both verbs are used in the same or similar contexts, BUT
🍋 “celebrar”, besides meaning “to celebrate”, can also be used as “ to hold/ to host” (aka “host an event”), and is often used to refer to any kind of occasion, happy, as well as sad .
🍋 “festejar”, on another hand can be used only to refer to a happy and festive event
For example
Hoje celebra-se o nascimento do escritor.
Today we celebrate authors birthday
Neste dia, celebramos a morte do artista.
Today we celebrate a date in memory of an artist that passed away. (Today we host a “funeral” for the artist who passed away)
Em Lisboa festejam o Santo António e no Porto o S. João
Lisbon celebrates the Day of St António and Porto celebrates the Day of St João.

What is Christmas without a Christmas tree 🎄?

You got it! “Árvore de Natal”, meaning a Christmas Tree, should be your main priority, if you haven’t got one yet.

Portugal is quite serious when it comes to Christmas, and most houses will have Christmas trees up as early as December 1st.

Also called “Pinheiro de Natal”, gorgeous Christmas trees are popping out all around the city. Be sure to check out beautifully lit downtown, Christmas village in Algés and Cascais.

And for now here is our vocab:

Já enfeitaste a tua árvore de Natal?
You already decorated your Christmas tree?

Vou fazer o pinheiro de Natal no próximo domingo.
I will put up the Christmas tree next Sunday.

Já tens muitos presentes no pinheirinho?
Already have loads of presents under the Christmas tree?
