Your authentic 18th century home in the most historic part of Lisbon Many years ago we fell in love with Lisbon.

In 2015 we bought an 18th century apartment we would like to share with you by turning it into a most authentic guesthouse

After installing new marbles for the doors to avoid water coming in, we are now giving them the full sand & paint treatment.

In 2015 we made new windows to measure in Portugal but incorporated the 18th century closing mechanism. With this maintenance they will be good for decades to come 🙂

Our wooden floors are taken care of with a wonderful product born in Lisbon, now produced in Almada : Encerite. Excellent wax to nourish parket floors. The feeling and look is so different to varnish that the work is more than worth it.

Sold at A Vida Portuguesa

Or shop at any of these to support local trade with character : Lojas com História Lisboa

"Zero waste": there is no packaging to throw away as one uses their own (also called "circular"). We have been doing this for quite some time with wash machine products from EcoXperience bought at Ecolonco and are proud of our rack of 20 liter containers we refill :) We added all cleaning products and recently started their oat based hand wash.

Natural, made in Portugal, bought in a city store, zero waste .. we can't find anything better. But tips always welcome!

This was also introduced in our other home, Casa Vasconcelos

We reviewed our coffee offer. We had Colombia pure arabica, a mix 60/40 robusta/arabica and Decaffeinated and decided to add ground coffee from Nicaragua, Timor and Brasil. Moreover we bought a grinder of Ufesa in which beans of Sao Tomé can be ground for maximum aroma pleasures. We made cards from every tea and coffee mentioning our favourite shops A Mariazinha , Casa Macário and Cafelia. We buy in all three to support local trade as much as we can. Tip: these are also excellent souvenirs as Portugal has brought coffee into many of the forementioned places. Enjoy!

Such nice review !

This was “our” place in the heart of the Alfama for a month. This beautifully restored "Pombaline" 1830's apartment is full of wonderful original tiles, artistic murals, period fixtures, original wood floors, plenty of charm, and it transports you back to your great-grandparents era.

Unwind with some vinho verde on the terrace. Prepare to sleep on beautiful and comfortable bedding, surrounded by antique furniture. You'll love the locally sourced toiletries, towels, and linen, too; and you'll appreciate the teas, coffee, cacao, and goodies that await you upon your arrival.

Looking out your 3 balconies, you might imagine yesteryear’s city dwellers, merchants and vendors riding up your street from the cathedral in horse buggies and, in later times, the “new” electrified trams. Who else once enjoyed this magnificent view? Who will be next?

Thank you Wilfried, Manu, Claudia and Eugenia for your kindness, great communication and recommendations, and warm friendship! Até a próxima vez!
