Dr Shahjahan Khan – My Friend

Dr Shahjahan Khan a friend for forty years died on 24th December,2023, due to a sudden heart attack. His death was unexpected because throughout his life he took very good care of his health.
Dr Shahjehan was born in the Swabi district of KP, which is also famous for the birth of Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Khan, founder of Islamia College Peshawar. Due to infighting between his family and rivals, he had to move to Larkana Sindh and stayed there for a long time. He learned Sindhi language and was fluent in it. During his stay there, he becomes captain of Sindh football team. During watching a football match, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, a former prime minister of Pakistan commented that Sindh football team could not find a Sindhi as a captain and chose a pahtan boy as a captain. Shahjehan Khan also played for several national football teams. During his stay in Turkey, he played for the Turkish team against teams from other countries. Because of his fair complexion, he was not differentiated as he was a Turk or not.
Later on he joined Quaid e Azam University, Islamabad, and earned a master's degree in administrative sciences. After getting master's degree, he joined Peshawar University. During his teaching career there, Dr Shahjehan went to the University of Hawai, USA, and completed a PhD degree. Dr Shahjehan was a founder of member of Iqra National University, Peshawar. He gathered a good team for INU University including Dr Abbas khan Zaidi, first vice chancellor of INU. Dr Shahjehan gave 15 years of excellent services to INU for which he got the award. He went back to Peshawar University and retired as Director of the Institute of Management Studies.
Dr Shahjehan was invited to deliver lectures at various national and international forums. During his stay at the top administration positions, he always observed merit and never did any favor to his family members. Dr Shahjehan also took a lot of pressure during these administrative positions. Although, he was a pakhtoon khan of his area, but he was very humble and took care of staff lower than his position. During Christmas, he used to arrange Christmas dinner for his Christian staff. He did not discriminate any anyone on a religious and ethnic basis. He was polite to all his staff.
Dr Shahjehan’s death will be mourned throughout the world by his friends, family and Facebook followers. His death is a great loss to INU and it will be hard to find such a dedicated person. When in 2022, I had to leave for Islamabad after serving many years at the INU, Shahjehan khan was sad but I never realized he would leave us forever.
