The Department of Energy (DOE) continues to strengthen the implementation of the Net-Metering Program, which allows qualified consumers with renewable energy systems, such as rooftop solar, to use the electricity they generate and export excess power to the grid in exchange for credits on their electricity bills.

Through net-metering, households, businesses, healthcare facilities, and other eligible electricity consumers can have greater opportunities to generate their own clean energy and take a more active role in the country’s energy transition. The DOE continues to work toward making rooftop solar more accessible nationwide while strengthening the implementation of the program to encourage wider participation in renewable energy.
