WTA HANDS ALEX EALA A 52-WEEK “ZERO-POINTER” PENALTY!

The WTA has reportedly imposed a 52-week “zero-pointer” sanction on Filipino tennis star Alex Eala after she missed the mandatory WTA 1000 China Open.

While Alex reportedly avoided the $10,000 fine, the ranking penalty still comes at a cost. Under the sanction, only five combined WTA 1000 tournament results will count toward her ranking points during the applicable period.

As a result, 35 points have been deducted from her previous total of 2,276, reducing her tally to 2,241 WTA points. The deduction came from her Madrid Open result, where she reached the Round of 64.
