Naligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura?

Hindi ito political campaign. Hindi lang ito click bait. Ito ang nakakalungkot na sitwasyon ng ating karagatan.

2.7 milyon tonelada ng plastic ang nagegenerate ng Pilipinas at 20% dito napupunta sa dagat. Plastic. Basura. Pag-asa na nabulok na. Pilipinas rin ang ika-3 sa pinakamadaming plastic na napupunta sa karagatan. Hindi gantimpala iyon. Iyon ang ating pagkakakilanlan kung hindi tayo gigising. Bansa ng tubig, ngunit puno ng dumi ang ating hangganan

Noong isang araw, habang papunta kami sa Pink Island sa Zamboanga, eto ang tumambad sa amin plastic, bula, at pighati.

Nakakalungkot. Nakakaawa. Nakakabahala.

Asul dapat ang dagat. Malinis. Maliwanag. Tahimik at maganda. Hindi dagat ng buhay. Dagat ng ating kapabayaan at pagkakamali.

Tila isang problemang hindi lubos na masolusyunan. O sadya bang atin nalang tuluyan niyayakap?

Matagal na natin itong problema. Maraming iba’t ibang institusyon mapa goberyno o NGO ang tumututok dito. Kami, sa Bughaw Innovations ay nakikiisa rin sa pagdevelop ng solusyon para maresolba ang problema sa plastic.

Ngunit ang tanong na hindi natin masagot ng batas o programa:

Asan ba talaga ang problema?
Baka nasa salamin.

Baka nasa kamay na humahawak ng basura at naghahanap ng tapunan.

Baka nasa atin — sa bawat plastik na tinanggap nang hindi tinanggi, sa bawat “sige na lang” na nagdala ng dagdag na dumi sa ating dagat at lupa’t hangin.

Ang dagat natin ay hindi basurahan.
Ito ang tahanan ng ating mga ninuno, ang kinabukasan ng ating mga anak.
Kung hindi tayo kikilos ngayon, sino pa?
Kung hindi tayo — ang bawat isa sa atin — sino ang magliligtas ng ating ilog at dagat?
