What kind of ancestors and stewards will we choose to be?

At ThinkLab, we believe that the future is not something we wait for. It is something we intentionally shape through the choices we make today. That is why we continue to champion conversations on futures thinking, systems change, stewardship, and collective action for future generations.

This afternoon, our founder and visionnaire, Sugar Araña, joins fellow advocates from the Good Stories Movement and the Philippine Information Agency to explore a question that sits at the heart of our work:

How do we create the stories that future generations will inherit? The Good Stories Movement 2026 invites us to move beyond simply responding to today's challenges and toward actively creating the futures we want to see through stewardship and collaboration.

We are also honored that Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr., whose landmark work on intergenerational responsibility helped inspire generations of environmental advocates and changemakers, continues to help advance this conversation through the Good Stories Movement.

Because every policy, every partnership, every community initiative, and every act of care becomes part of a larger story. And the stories we create today become the futures others will live tomorrow.

Systems Thinking 101: "Did the wolves change the rivers?"

Through Conservation International Philippines' 𝗞𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱, ThinkLAB Innovations has trained more than 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 from over 𝟱𝟬 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆𝘀 across 𝟴 𝗟𝗚𝗨𝘀, including Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons and officials, leaders of local youth organizations, and representatives from academic and campus-based organizations.

We need more organizations like Conservation International Philippines that invest in young people. Not only as volunteers or beneficiaries, but as stewards, systems-oriented leaders, futures builders, and long-term thinkers!

Lipa City, Batangas | ThinkLAB Innovations trained more than 100 youth leaders on Systems Thinking

At ThinkLAB Innovations, we believe that stewardship begins with seeing the whole picture. The future will not be built by isolated actions alone, but by people and communities willing to think in systems and lead with responsibility for generations to come.

We are grateful to Conservation International Philippines for creating spaces like KASALIGAN 2026 that bring together young leaders to learn, collaborate, and imagine a future beyond short-term solutions. Through their invitation, ThinkLAB Innovations Founder and Visionnaire Sugar Araña had the opportunity to facilitate a Systems Thinking 101 session for more than 100 youth leaders representing over 50 barangays across 8 local government units in Batangas.

What inspired us most was not simply the number of participants, but the shared commitment to becoming better stewards of the Calumpang River Watershed and the communities that depend on it. The session challenged participants to move beyond reactive environmental programs and begin designing initiatives that are strategic, interconnected, and built for long-term impact.

We need more organizations like Conservation International Philippines that invest in young people. Not only as volunteers or beneficiaries, but as stewards, systems-oriented leaders, futures builders, and long-term thinkers. When youth are equipped to understand the relationships between environment, governance, community, and future generations, they become a powerful force for lasting change.

The future belongs to those who can see connections. And the work of building that future starts now.

Most young people are taught to solve problems. But what if we also teach them how to understand the systems creating them?

📰 PRESS RELEASE | YOUTH-LED MOVEMENT FILES PETITION TO ESTABLISH "HIGH SEAS MARINE RESERVATIONS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS" IN SIMULTANEOUS EARTH DAY FILINGS

NEW YORK & MANILA — On Earth Day 2026, Global Guardians of the SEA, a youth-led coalition, filed the People's Petition to “Establish Marine Reservations for Future Generations Throughout the High Seas” simultaneously at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines in Manila.

The petition, signed by 171 Filipino SEA-Tizens, calls on the Philippine government to declare the high seas as “Marine Reservations for Future Generations” in the Asia High Seas between the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and China. This high seas Marine Protected Area (MPA) is proposed under the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Treaty, which entered into force January 17, 2026.

Global Guardians of the SEA unites students, legal experts, marine scientists, and coastal community advocates under the counsel of renowned environmental lawyer Antonio Oposa, Jr., architect of the landmark Oposa v. Factoran case establishing intergenerational equity.

The petition calls on the Philippine government to:
1️⃣ Formally endorse the establishment of Marine Reservations for Future Generations as a national policy priority;
2️⃣ Initiate preparation of a comprehensive BBNJ Marine Protected Area proposal for the Asia High Seas, including scientific assessments, legal analysis, stakeholder consultations, and management frameworks;
3️⃣ Establish a multi-stakeholder taskforce with government agencies, scientists, legal experts, youth representatives, and coastal community advocates;
4️⃣ Engage regional partners through ASEAN mechanisms to build consensus and co-sponsorship;
5️⃣ Submit a proposal to the Conference of the Parties of the BBNJ Treaty at the earliest opportunity.

The Global Guardians of the SEA has launched a global signature campaign to establish Marine Reservations for Future Generations throughout the rest of the world’s high seas.
