Today, we are to remember the 54𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐨. 1081. We continue to remind ourselves about the 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 that our fellow Filipino citizens have demonstrated during dark times. It was an era where 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅, along with facts and ugly truths that the masses were desperately trying to uncover, and share to the world. Despite all, it is indeed because of our fellow citizens that the Philippines was freed from such vile dictatorship and suffering. It is a 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙚 that 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, so it is one that we 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 moving forward today.

With this, we must stay informed; be it about the dark past or the unfolding events of the present. It is our duty now, the people of today, to also have 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 to look beyond ourselves, and to honor those who came before us—𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 that 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆.

Today, we remember the heroes who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. But beyond the names we read in history books, there are millions of Filipinos who, in their own ways, continue to build and strengthen our nation. 🫡 🇵🇭

A hero does not always make history. Sometimes, a hero is the farmer who works from sunrise to sunset, the teacher who shapes young minds, the driver who brings people home, the worker who provides for their family, or the ordinary Filipino who continues to persevere despite life’s challenges. 🌾👷‍♂️👩‍🏫
