SRT KICKS OFF on ITS Year III
Special Reading Tutorial (SRT III) ,now bigger and wider in scope is a manifestation of its huge impact and successful implementation in the Municipality of Maasin in its fervent desire to address the literacy needs among the struggling learners in the district.Now with 228 stuggling learners as recipients from both the elementary and secondary schools in the whole Schools District of Maasin with more than 3,000,000.00 budget from the Lifebank Foundation, it commenced with a two- day orientation and training to 76 tutors facilitated by the Technical Working Core Group and Sub- Core Group under the supervision of Hon. John C. Mondejar , SB member in- charge to Education and Dr. Ma. Teresa B. Campaniel , Principal in-Charge of the District.The SRT team was honored having been graced by Lifebank Foundation representatives in the persons of Mrs. Analy B. Esteva,the Program Supervisor, Lifebank Foundation and Mrs. Berna G. Halongong , Acting Department Head, Lifebank Foundation Sustainable Development Department who both gave their messages and witnessed the demonstration teaching of both the experienced and new tutors. This collaborative encounter was truly engaging that clarified all the queries , thereby strengthened the partnership to continue the mission of making Maasin a literacy champion.
Mayor Francis A. Amboy and SB Mindaluz M. Billena. , Education co- Chaiperson were also present in the program.,

SRT II holds a Parents' Orientation which aims to intensify the collaboration with parents who serve as one of the strongest backbones of the program. Through the reassuring message of SB John Mondejar,the lead proponent and the chairman of the Committee in Education, the orientation of Dr. Ma.Teresa B Campaniel ,Principal -in- Charge of the District along with Dr. Marlo C.Quidato ,Principal II of Maasin National Comprehensive High School and Mrs. Elena P. Misola, Principal II of Maasin Central Elementary School , the " DEAL" sign signifies the all-out support of the parents to SRT II, a manifestation of their love to their children and Maasin as a whole.This act of support was strengthened through the signing of Parents' Consent and Parents' Commitment Form..School heads from the different recipient schools make an assurance that SRT be implemented in its best results as shown by their presence in the conduct of the Parents'Orientation Program. Mrs. Adonna A.Rojo, Master Teacher I of Maasin Central Elementary School, Ms.Mary Spira Sumbillo,the Remedial Reading Coordinator of Maasin National Comprehensive High School,and Mrs. Pilar O.Corcino, Master Teacher II ,are the members of technical working committee behind this activity.

SRT...the journey begins!

According to Koft Annan, "Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope." This is the very core of the collaboration among the Maasin Local Government Unit,the Maasin DepEd and the Life Bank Foundation Inc. in which Special Reading Tutorial (SRT) had been realized, that is, to eliminate illiteracy in the District of Maasin .
Through the steadfast commitment of SB John C.Mondejar, the chairman of the Education Committee, to sustain and strengthen the program funded by the Life Bank Foundation Inc., SRT ,now in it's second year, commenced through an orientation and training to tutors last March 13-14, 2023 at the MDRRM Office, Municipality of Maasin. The opening program was graced by the Hon. Mayor Francis A. Amboy, SB Member John C.Mondejar , SB Member Mindaluz Billena, co- chairman in Education Committee, Dr.Ma.Teresa B.Campaniel, the Principal- in - Charge of the District, Dr.Marlo C.Quidato, Principal II of Maasin National Comprehensive High School, and Mrs.Elena P. Misola, Principal II of Maasin Central Elementary School. The morning session includes orientation and an open forum among the 36 tutors. Mrs. Pilar O.Corcino, Master Teacher II of Maasin National Comprehensive High School, Ms. Mary Spira Sumbillo, MNCHS Remedial Reading Coordinator and Mrs.Adonna A.Rojo,Master Teacher I of Maasin Central Elementary School gave talks on the "Strategies on Teaching Reading to Struggling Learners" and " The Reading Links in Focus "by Dr.Alma C.Janagap as the main material to be used in the program. After which ,was a return demonstration teaching from both the pioneer and the new tutors that lasted up to the second day of the occasion and was followed by a feed backing from the trainers and fellow participants.The closing program was highlighted by the impression from a selected participant Mrs.Elsa Superioridad, the words of challenge by Hon.SB John C.Mondejar, the acceptance of challenge by Ms.Edeleen Ollosa, a pioneer tutor ,and the awarding certificates.Dr.Marlo C.Quidato officially closed the program and was followed by the Community Singing entitled " Heal the World " and " I Have a Dream." which spread the spirit of unity,mission ,accountability and inspiration to be one in the SRT journey...
