A little late, but a milestone worth telling.

On March 7, 2026, the 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 officially brought together dental students and future oral healthcare professionals at the A&M Building in Legazpi City, marking a historic first for dental students in the Bicol Region.

Anchored on the theme, “𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞,” the congress sought to bridge what students learn inside the classroom with the realities they will encounter in clinical practice.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐌 | 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆

The afternoon began with the arrival and registration of participants, setting the stage for an afternoon dedicated to learning, professional development, and meaningful engagement.

The formal program commenced with the Invocation, Philippine National Anthem, AMEC Hymn, and BU Hymn, followed by the Opening Remarks delivered by Dr. Natri Joyce A. Elvira, Dean of the AMEC College of Dentistry.

The program continued with an Inspirational Message from Dr. Angelita F. Ago, President of AMEC-BCCM-AGH, encouraging participating students to look beyond academic requirements and recognize their role in shaping the future of dentistry.

The congress then proceeded to its first major academic segment. Dr. Leilani Esquela, faculty member of the AMEC College of Dentistry, introduced the first speaker, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧 𝐌. 𝐋𝐚𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚, who delivered the lecture entitled “Beyond the Curriculum: The Realities of Practicing Dentistry in the Philippines.”

The session provided students with perspectives beyond textbooks and classroom discussions, emphasizing the realities, responsibilities, and challenges that come with entering the dental profession.

Following the first lecture, participants engaged in an Open Forum and Question-and-Answer session, allowing students to raise questions and gain further insights from the speaker.

The afternoon continued with an intermission number, followed by a Product Presentation led by Mr. Johnrey Pepito, Continuing Medical Education (CME) Lead of TMPI–Kenvue Philippines.

The second academic session was then introduced by Dr. Ma. Teresa V. Valenciano, Head of Academic Affairs and Clinical Supervisor of the AMEC College of Dentistry. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐆. 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 then delivered the second lecture, “Oral Cancer Early Detection and Primary Management.”

The lecture highlighted the importance of early recognition and appropriate management of oral cancer, reinforcing the role of future dentists in preventive and responsive oral healthcare.

Another Open Forum and Question-and-Answer session followed, giving participants the opportunity to engage further with the speaker and deepen their understanding of the topic.

As the congress approached its closing moments, an intermission number provided a brief celebration before 𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐢𝐧̃𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐫., 𝟏𝟏𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, delivered his message to the participants.

The program concluded with the Awarding of Certificates and Tokens, followed by the Closing Remarks delivered through the representation of Dr. Pamela D. Valdez, formally bringing the afternoon congress to a close.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒, 𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒

The successful staging of the inaugural congress was made possible through the initiative and leadership of Michael Edmer A. Namoro, PDSA–AMEC President, A.Y. 2025–2026, who served as the Head Organizer and Host of the 1st Bicol Dental Students Congress.

His leadership, together with the support of the AMEC College of Dentistry, partner institutions, speakers, guests, and participating dental students, helped turn the vision of establishing a regional gathering for Bicolano dental students into reality.

𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒—𝐀 𝐁𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆

The 1st Bicol Dental Students Congress was more than a one-day academic gathering. It was a first—a first step toward creating stronger connections among dental students in Bicol, exposing future dentists to the realities of professional practice, and encouraging a culture of continuous learning beyond the curriculum.

From the first registration to the final message, every segment of the program contributed to one goal: preparing future dentists not only to practice dentistry, but to become responsive and preventive oral healthcare professionals.

Months may have passed since that afternoon, but the significance of being part of the first remains.

The first congress has been held. The bridge has been built. And the journey of Bicol’s future dentists continues. 🦷💜

With a remarkable 89.6% voter turnout, the election reflects the active participation of the eligible voting body. The right to vote was extended exclusively to the Class Officers and Outgoing PDSA–AMEC Officers, who were the duly eligible voters for this election.
